When i was arrived at this hotel，all is in mess. Check in counter，lobby and so…… which were great contrasts than other resorts. The stuff kept looking outside but took No actions to our baggages. Worst service and ordinary surroundings, Which aren't worth living
Our 4th time in Sanya and we decided to try Haitang Bay again because on the reviews and pictures of this Sofitel. Even though swimming in the sea is not allowed by the authorities in Haitang Bay, I really enjoyed this resort and the leisure it offers, specially the swimming pool area.
We got a premium sea view room (I strongly recommend sea-view room) which was beautifully decorated and very spacious. The small balcony was a nice plus. The bed was very comfortable and AC working as it should.
Since the day before my arrival I was contacted by Michelle who I added on wechat, I really like this kind of service as it provides easy and quick assistance if necessary. She was also very attentive and took care of us all the way. Check-out was super fast, all we did was dropping the room key and later received the billing by mail.
The breakfast was nothing less than I would expect from this level of hotel in terms of offer, but I really enjoyed the quality of the food and layout of the room.
What I enjoyed most in the hotel was the swimming pool areas. The actually have 2 different pools, a big one close to the rooms and another one close to the beach. Both of them offer different kind of areas to enjoy, for example the bigger one offers a bar area, a separate kids area, and quite a few smaller more private areas where you can have a chair or sofas. You can also find hammocks laying around the hotel grounds.
An important comment to make is that during peak season the hotel offers helicopter tours, so there will be a lot of take-off and landing during the day. It did't bother us much though.

This is a great resort for families and couples with separated areas, pools, etc depending on who you are with and what you want out of the trip. This hotel's layout as a resort is one of the best I've encounter and highly recommend. You won't be disappointed.
I've stayed here twice now and found the staff to be fairly nice. The ladies in the executive lounge were extraordinarily attentive and some of the best I've encountered at a Sofitel, but super stringent and not very friendly if you show up a few minutes before closing, expect to be cut off. Too bad for later checkins.
I would give this place five stars, but the last day of the second stay, they let some massive DJ party happen on the hotel grounds which is fine, it ended around 1030-11pm, but what I found pretty annoying was the security guards. You can't sleep with the noise, but they'll sure the hell try to kick you out of the pool and keep you out which seems a bit ridiculous in context of the ongoing noisey event.
Otherwise, everything was pretty good, I'd definitely come back.

The pool access restrictions are a life safety issue and without life guards present we cannot allow guests to be in the pool, regardless of what event is going on in the resort. While these events are rare, if we do have another one I will consider to keep the life guards longer, in line with the event ending time. The hotel is fantastic and the service is absolutely stunning. Pool is great, all very luxurious, the food is a good mix of western and Asian and the staff is very welcoming and friendly. Highly recommended!

My son and I chose Sofitel as we liked the photos on trip advisor. We are pleased with our choice! After a rocky start with being assigned a badly maintained room full of cigarette smoke, we got a room which we had actual booked! I don’t know why they allotted us the wrong room in the first place. I see this practice in China. They first try an ok room with the guest, then if we complain, we get what we booked, or a better room. Anyway, this was the only issue I faced. Rest of it was a smooth stay. Amazing kids activities, good view from the room. Housekeeping needs to be improved. They are inconsistent but they always smile and work, and they help out when we point out a missing service.
The restaurant Cuisine and the Lobby restaurant is where we ate. Limited western choices but food is good. The chef Kevin in Cuisine is a delightful polite man and he made my son and I feel so welcome! All staff are excellent jn their behaviour in the whole hotel! The lady in the Lobby, Amy, she was simply brilliant and helpful in the best ways. And Kroeger at the Concierge services, he was so kind and careful with everything and everyone. He helped me book the helicopter ride and ensured I had no problem dealing with the chopper team. He even offered to pay for us by wechat as my card wasn’t working and said I could always pay him later. I didn’t accept it as I managed to arrange the ride cost but I was impressed with the man. The pool bubble party, the little chef activity, the go karting, beach… all are very very good! Special mention to the girls who bake for the dinner buffet. Their pastries are yummmmmmm. I ate 8 of them one night! Also Roy at the check out desk. Great service! He is very helpful and smart and understands English very well! Fanstastic experience in Sofitel. I wish to return here someday.
Oh yes, the hotel offers a nice laundry service with special price. I used it. Didn’t regret.
