Intetesting but wouldn't come back

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 11 Aug 2021via mobile
The five buildings are aesthetically stunning from the outside and light up beautifully at night (unfortunately not all light up at night now). We stayed in a 2 room suite. The package came with dinner on the balcony which was a generous section of kebabs and several dishes from the Chinese restaurant with a bottle of wine. A great start to our stay.

Unfortunately, there are some internal building issues. When the balcony door was open the central air conditioning caused massive condensation flooding/bonding all over the apartment floor (this would explain the damp musty smell in the room). There was a large spa and bath on the private deck. The drain on the spa was not however functions. The suite was clean and furnished to a basic level. Each room had it's own en suite.

Included in the package was afternoon tea on the Sky lounge. Amazing views from here but most of the seating/viewing area was roped off. We came at 3pm and music was blearing out. Sexually explicit songs in English laden with expletives. I am not normally too bothered by music but this was something else! As we were the only ones there we asked for the volume to be turned down and they refused. The manner and service was rude. The ambience was totally wrong for serving afternoon tea and families. If the hotel insists on creating such an environment there should be a R18 or R16 age limit.

The outdoor swimming pools were well maintained and provided lots of entertainment for the kids. The breakfast selection was excellent and well managed.

We enjoyed our stay but if we returned to Sanya we'd try somewhere different next time. There are plenty of excellent choices. This resort does not have a beach. If you want a beach holiday book in Yalong Bay.

We were in Sanya for one week. The town is very nice and provides a lot of opportunities. We stayed at Phoenix Island Resort Sanya. The resort is on an small artificial island. The rooms are very clean and have a big balcony with furniture to relax. Our cleaner was Linda. A very nice lady that always made sure that we have everything to enjoy our stay.

Beautiful large suites, great buildings and nice territory with modern disign. Everything is full of future and wealth. Egg-shape parts of design is everywhere, evening illumination at the building looks wonderful. There is no beach at the island, but maybe you are here for other things: superior interiors, service (english of personel is at good level) and delicios breakfasts. Good place for dates:) Children could be bored a bit, but some pools and activities could make them happier.
I recommend!

Room tip: The higher floor - the better (choose 20+)

My family and I recently spent 4 nights here. The hotel was definetely chosen for its location and impressive construction, however totally disastrous customer service regarding westerners and the obvious signs of the hotel aging, ruined our expectations. Check in was slow, noone speaks english and there is a lot of giggling and making fun of guests when instead they should be trying to work a way through their inability to speak english. That said, important information sush as the breakfast options and transfer from and to the island were completely dismissed, one just has to improvise and find his way through... A total of 30 minutes of waiting for a car come and take us from the reception to the building were our rooms were located, upon check out we had to drag all our bags to the reception on our own as they did not understand english when we called for a bell boy...Tragic...

The room view is amazing, however missing balcony furniture! There is just one chair to sit on...

The room size ( we had a two bedroom room ) was great, however the room is in definite need of a face lift. Tiles missing from the shower, worn out furniture and in general eventhough clean, you are just left with a feeling that this used to be better...

Breakfast, once you are at the right building, is probably ok for chinese, with some choices for westerners too.

All in all, our stay was trouble free, but this is not a hotel to recommend. Not more that a 3 star hotel I would say...

The hotel looks impressive, but rooms are fairly basic and there are limited dining options (especially at lunchtime). The hotel caters mainly to Chinese clientele, so expect the usual Chinese hotel issues - although our bed was soft thankfully! There are 2 lovely pools and a great view....however there is constantly people taking wedding photographs around the pool which is very annoying and they will ask you to move if you are in their shot (even though you are a paying guest!). Location is close to the centre of Sanya and we had a really enjoyable trip. We got a good deal on the hotel, so do not regret staying here - but don't expect 4/5 star luxury as they state!

The hotel itself it’s pretty awesome. The city/ocean view we had of Sanya was amazing. Actually do not think you can get a better view anywhere in Sanya. The room itself was a studio suite and was spacious and clean.
The island is a short shuttle ride into the city. The shuttle is free. So there is no beach on the resort so you will need to get the shuttle to get to the beach. However the pool is very nice if you want to stay close by.
Breakfast is standard Chinese buffet style and decent. It is what you would expect.
No the staff do not speak well in English but honestly will go out of their way to try and get across what you need to know. So understand your in China, the staff is friendly and great!
Only part of the hotel was disappointed in was the sky bar lounge. Great views but little overpriced for drinks.
As for payment I used Alipay. China in general is difficult to use some credit cards so yes double check before you book anywhere.
Will 100% be back to this great hotel!
