Not a good choice

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 10 Sept 2014
This hotel is not a 5 star hotel. Maximum 3.
Staff does not speak any English.
Room cleanliness, especially toilet/bathroom - 0 out of 5! Terrible urine smell, mould, soap spots on the walls and floor, hair... Disgusting. I had a chance to see how they clean the room - everything was cleaned with same dirty piece of clothes.
We have been given a wrong type of room, not what we paid for. Air con and safe did not work. They gave us another room next day. Not much better.
Rooms are dark, not enough light. Internet is extremely slow.
I should say the manager tried to help us. So, our last 2 night (out of 7) we spent in the executive suite. However, it did not help to improve my opinion about the hotel.
Location is not good. There is no decent restaurants or shops any near.
The only positive thing was a Russian restaurant in the hotel - you can have a good food there if you eat Russian food though.

This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. I'm genuinely perplexed by the positive reviews - they must have extremely low standards.

I have stayed in 2* hotels in Greece that have been more enjoyable than this poor excuse for a 'resort'.

The staff are extremely unhelpful and often rude when you try your hardest to communicate with them. None of them speak anything other than Chinese, and even when the Chinese translator was sent in to try and rectify all of our issues, they didn't do a thing about it and feigned ignorance.

The food and hygiene is so bad that everyone was sick with food poisoning for the whole trip. Even pointing to the pictures in the menu was fruitless, they'd bring the wrong food out; that's if they brought anything at all. They had a wonderful habit of not bringing you anything if they didn't have it, instead of telling you to choose something else. This turned out to be a good thing though, I ended up wishing that my food didn't arrive to spare me the agony of food poisoning.

The toilets smell strongly of urine, along with the hallway carpet. I don't know about anyone else, but I object to being seen or heard while I'm using the loo; the toilets in the room have huge gaps at the top of the door & it's all made of glass. So if you're sharing a room, you'll be enjoying hearing their explosive bowels (from the bad food) while you're laying in bed. Not my idea of an acceptable room layout at all.

There are no towels by the pool (and not enough sun loungers anyway) so you have to use the ones from your room. Which rarely get replaced with fresh ones.

The wifi is ridiculous, you can only get it in the lobby and even then it rarely works.

The hotel is in the middle of nowhere. We were trapped in this hellhole of a hotel that was making us extremely ill, and were unable to eat elsewhere because it was too far to go in a taxi everyday. The last thing you want when you have sickness and diarrhoea is a 40 minute cab journey into town.

The only positive thing about this hotel is the lady in the shop. She didn't understand English, but tried hard to help you and served you with a smile. If you're unfortunate enough to end up in this dump, you'll be spending a lot of time in the shop buying up all their Coke and Pringles so that you don't die from malnutrition.

I arrived here weighing 125lbs. I left weighing 115lbs and suffering from severe stomach cramps, dehydration and felt weak. We're extremely fortunate that we had a doctor with us who had to give us all strong antibiotics to stop us from ending up in hospital. That's not even a slight exaggeration.

DO NOT stay here. If I was given an all expenses paid trip to this hotel, I would give it to my worst enemy. And even then, I'd feel bad about potentially killing them by sending them here.

I cannot recommend this hotel. While I certainly don't expect every staff member to speak English, communication was impossible most of the time. While convenient to the beach, the hotel is approx 30-40 min by taxi from the city.

This problem is compounded by the fact that the food at the hotel is largely inedible - that's if they have what you want to order that day. A group of friends ordered a total of eight burgers only to have the waitress come back and tell them that there were only six burgers. In the entire hotel. For the whole day. Prices and quantities of food are seemingly set at whim. A friend ordering french fries got a small portion of crinkle fries one night, followed by a large portion of straight cut fries for double the price the next night.

My rooms washbasin had mold growing out of it, and the maid would provide us with two fresh towels only occasionally. More often she left only one two towel, somewhat perplexing as both had been used. The WiFi is not accessible in the rooms, only in the main lobby, and then it's slow - when it's working, it was frequently down. Upon checkout they tried to charge us for bruning out the hair drier (neither of us used it) and for opening bottles in the minibar ("neither of us drink," we said. "oh, you didnt drink anything, you just opened them," they said.)

The only good things I can say are that the pool was nice, the beds were comfortable and the cost was cheap.

Stayed for ten days in end of august 2013. Almost everyone got sick from the food. the breakfast buffet was "ok" but the rest was overpriced and had low standard.
Almost no one in the staff talked english. The hotell was repainted inside and it smelled paint in the lobby and the corridors.
My room was very noisy from something, but the staff didnt help at all.
wanted to get a massage, but the spa was just prostitutes..

Room tip: stay away from this hotel

Stayed here in August 2013 for a couple of weeks and was not impressed. The food was pretty abysmal and hygiene standards were far from ideal. The staff have only a very limited grasp of English, which can make even the most basic of requests very arduous and time consuming. There is nothing to do in the immediate vicinity of the hotel whatsoever and this necessitates a cab ride to restaurants and shops, the best of which are at least 30 minutes away. The swimming pool was quite decent and the beach which joins onto the property was adequate, but nothing outstanding. The pool doesn't provide you with towels, however, which was pretty poor.

Also beware when you checkout, as a number of people had incidental/damage charges added during a 'room inspection' at checkout for items which they had neither used or damaged. This seemed to be an attempt to try to squeeze some money out of the (western) guests, but they did backtrack if you stood your ground and suddenly accepted that 'there had been a mistake.'

The staff in the small shop are friendly, but everything in there is very expensive, notably water, which costs 7RMB per bottle, whereas almost everywhere else it is 3RMB, including airports, so that should give an indication as to how expensive it is at the hotel.

The rooms weren't too bad, and the air-conditioning was pretty good, but the dreadful food and language barrier make this a place to be approached with caution if you are not a Chinese national.

Room tip: The cheaper rooms all have a view of what is effectively a building site, which backs onto the aiport runway.

We visited Grand Solux in march, 2011. Excellent equipment, spacious room, balcony with thermal bath, teapot and chinese tea))), amazing lobby, If you want to go anywhere, you can ask the receptionists to order your a taxi (it is the most convinient way to go out), also at the reception you can change currency. Enjoy your stay here!
