Driving into the place the hotel looks impressive, but scratch the surface and you see the hotel isn’t loved or finished properly, no one speaks English, the meals are completely awful and getting a drink is almost impossible. The room service is also below standard. A hamburger was more like a little slider and the bun was Asian bread - more like cake.

Room keeping is very slack, and I wouldn’t want to have the runs because they only provide rooms with the smallest amount of toilet paper.

That said, I know the staff try their best. Management really need to lift their game if they want to remain in business.

The gardens are beautiful. Stunning. It’s a shame they don’t take as much pride with their rooms and customer service.

I’ve been here a week and am leaving tomorrow. When I return I will be staying at a different hotel. This was dreadful.

The nearest airport hotel of Haikou Meilan International Airport used to be HNA Meilan Airport Hotel, also known as HNA Express Inn Meilan Airport branch. However since 2016, the building is no longer available for booking on Ctrip.com. Hence the only nearest hotel to Haikou’s airport that has complimentary bus shuttle service turns out to be Eadry Royal Garden Hotel.

Eadry Royal Garden Hotel has been established for five years since 2013. Its imposing traditional Chinese architecture follows that of the architectural style of Forbidden Palace in Beijing. Hence it earns the other name of “Haikou’s Forbidden Palace”.

Located 13 km from Wugong Temple and 27 km from Shishan Volcano, Eadry Royal Garden Hotel has an outdoor swimming pool, a spa centre, hot spring bath, a business centre, a small aviary and a Chinese restaurant serving Hainanese and Cantonese cuisine and complimentary breakfast includes organic vegetables and fruits, Continental and Chinese breakfast. Tianjin Airlines Haikou Airport Branch Office is located in the premises. For baggage handling and airport station matters of Tianjin Airlines, come to this hotel.

There is a small jockey exhibition corner in this hotel. Here, tourists can learn about horses used in horse-racing in China.

The rooms are huge and spacious. Each room has a private bathroom and a bathtub. There is a minibar in each room. The staff are generous and hospitable.

Guests can bring home complimentary body lotion, shampoo and body foam. Shavers are for indoor use. Condoms and a toiletry kit are for sale at 20 RMB and 58 RMB respectively other than the complimentary toiletries.

Hotel staff have very good memory and are polite. They still recognised me when I checked-in the second time at this hotel. Upon checking-in, expect to pay a redeemable room-key deposit of 200 RMB. Check-out before 12 pm.

Eadry Royal Garden Hotel is of a 15 minutes complimentary bus ride to Haikou Meilan Airport Domestic Terminal. Passengers exiting out of the Domestic Terminal and staying in this hotel should wait at the Domestic Terminal Exit just above the linkway to the Meilan Airport speed railway station, opposite the taxi stand, for 10 minutes for a complimentary transfer to the hotel.

The hotel can also pick up passengers at the International Terminal without any charge.

Eadry Royal Garden Hotel is a five-star hotel that offers affordable rates on hotel booking platforms such as Ctrip, Agoda, TripAdvisor and Qunar. I recommend tourists coming to Haikou Airport for overnight transit to consider staying here.

Selected for its location and surroundings, it looked promising. However...from check in, to the dining options and quality (breakfast particularly poor options), to all service touch-points, to the state of the room, to checkout - this hotel continued to leave me unimpressed.
