Owner description: Described as both a ‘Vertical City’ and ‘A Living Wonder,’ Burj Khalifa, developed by Dubai-based Emaar Properties PJSC, is the world’s tallest building. Rising gracefully from the desert, Burj Khalifa honours the city with its extraordinary union of art, engineering and meticulous craftsmanship. At 828 metres (2,716.5 ft), the 200 plus storey Burj Khalifa has 160 habitable levels, the most of any building in the world. The tower was inaugurated on January 4, 2010, and is responsible for a number of world-firsts. The tower became the world’s tallest man-made structure just 1,325 days after excavation work started in January 2004. Burj Khalifa utilised a record-breaking 330,000 cubic metres of concrete; 39,000 tonnes of steel reinforcement; 103,000 square metres of glass; and 15,500 square metres of embossed stainless steel. The tower took 22 million man hours to build.

You can buy ticket to 124/125 floor or 150 floor (twice the price). The best time to go is afternoon to stay for sunset. Long cues in the tourist season!!!

We booked the At The Top Experience and accessed the ticket counter from inside the Dubai Mall. It was a short queue with a breezy security process for people, purses and bags prior to getting to the Elevator which takes you to the 124th floor in seconds. It was an amazing experience with indescribable views.

A visit to tall buildings isnt exactly on our "must see" attractions anywhere we visit in the world ,however , this one is different.  Why ? Because
1. It is the tallest building in the whole world
2. It is dubai where one doesn't go necessarily for cultural site seeing 3. Doing that once gives you the bragging rights of having visited the tallest building in the world.

Some tips before you visit

1. DO NOT buy the tickets at the q. They fleece you to their heart's content . Rather book it online and you will barely pay a fraction of it. At the line , for the sunset slot, we were told a cost of aed 550 per person and before we handed over the cash, I thankfully remembered reading somewhere to buy the tickets online. So we exited the q, went online to one of the many ticketing websites and bought the same tickets (you need to prepay) for aed 210 per person. Totally worth the extra forex credit card charges.

2. Aim for one of the early morning or sunset tours because it is exquisite !

3. Do not fall for the "professional" pictures at the venue. They are prohibitively expensive and display the photoshop skills of a kinder gardener.

4. Do not bother upgrading your tickets to visit the 148 floor. Rather buy the 124/125 floor tickets and also book for a high tea in their cafe on the 148th floor. You will almost spend the same but will be able to get a nice afternoon tea experience at the armani hotel.

5. Going there in evening also enables you to see the fountain show and the sound and light show where they light up the tower with beautiful laser sequence.

Enjoy !
