We stayed here for the last two nights of out 10 day family holiday. After a long stay at Atlantis and visits to img world etc my husband and I were finally able to relax. Our two kids 8 and 4 were happy playing in the pool or at the kids club, whilst we lounged by the pool and read.
The service is spectacular, way above what one us used to in dubai (we lived here for 3 years). Food at the Indian Masala restaurant is superb. The show at the Arabic restaurant ok but not a must. The rooms are very tasteful and comfortable.
Kids loved the falcons and camels, my son really enjoyed his archery lesson.
There is just this amazing tranquillity about the place and not too many people. With hindsight... we should have booked another night. That being said, with two hyper kids more than three nights would probably get a bit boring.

This is a super place with all the magic of the desert around, amazing poolsides, top restaurants and superb rooms. Definitely a highlight around Dubai. Conplimentary Camel ride and Hawks fly and hunt are great! It gets pretty hot during day time but at the pool you have plenty of fun. Evenings have many options and the traditional restaurant with its heritage show, is a buffet, and though a little noisy it was worth.

Went there for 2 nights to escape from city life .

It's a tranquil place to stay in, the rooms are designed in a very unique way .
The swimming pool ,gym facilities and spa are just amazing.

All the resturants and the lounge prices are worthy of the quality of food your being served .

There are camel rides and if you go to al hadeera resturant you get your dinner with a horse show.

It's defintley worth it to see the desert and enjoy a peaceful time with ur family away from the city life.

This was the first leg of our 6 week family holiday. Traveling with my wife and two daughters 20 and 22. We booked two rooms - interconnecting. The hotel is exactly how is is portrayed on the internet. Built to resemble a fortress and backs onto the desert but still only 45 minutes from Dubai airport. The hotel is spotless. The staff professional and respectful. We went there at the start of September as a 3 day stopover to Europe and would stay longer next time. I would recommend that you expect the dry heat to hit you in the face when you arrive. However, being a dry heat you acclimatize quickly and everywhere at the hotel is air conditioned and there always one of the pools to cool off in. The open roof top areas where you can have drinks/meals do have portable aircon/fans that they operate help the tourists.
The hotel is truly an oasis and lives up to being 5 stars. The rooms are cool and fashioned to the authentic Arabic style - very comfortable and with ample room.
Across the hotel site you will find passage ways, artifacts and sitting/reflecting areas and it never once felt crowded.
We used their gym everyday and it has everything you will need for cardio and weights.
The food was excellent and catered for my family which also has vegetarians and a vegan. Please note meals for a vergetarian was easy but for a vegan it was the most difficult and the most difficult to explain what they can/can't eat.
We hired the hotel's car and driver and had a choice of a large SUV or Jaguar XJL to go into Dubai for a tour and a shopping experience. The driver was brilliant and recommend a trip to the Dubai mall and the Burj Khalifa. We booked our tickets (recommended) to go up the Burj Khalifa with the hotel and visited the 124th floor. You can go higher. The haze and sand in the air restricted the vision but worth the trip up.
We had also booked before leaving Australia a night at the Al Hadheera Restaurant, which is part of the hotel but a golf buggy ride of 5 minutes away. It is over $425 Durham each and is advertised as a truly Arabic event - horses/camels/falconry/authentic Arabic food and entertaining. Unfortunately, we did find the event to be quite non eventful and boring. Our own opinion. It seemed just too touristy (for what of a better word) and thought it was less than spectacular - for the price and for the entertainment. Service was fine, food was bountiful and note it is all outside and even with large industrial fans they run, without a breeze you will need to expect that you will sweat!!
So,for the stay at Bab Al Shams overall, I rate it highly and would return anytime to experience what is a truly unique hotel in the desert.
Back to the hotel. There is a great variety of foods for breakfast and their range of restaurants cater for everyone - pizzas, Indian to steak/seafood. All very good quality. Don't forget people can smoke anywhere so be prepared for that. The pools are clean and have a life guard at each one, so if you have young kids that would be a bonus.

Room Tip: As a family we had ground floor interconnecting rooms that looked into the courtyard.

We expected the resort to be nice, but we were not expecting to be blown away. The grounds are immaculate, the staff top class, and the numerous little touches throughout the place is above and beyond (cold towels brought to you while lounging at the pool, fruit on a stick, popsicles, camel rides, bikes, etc). I highly recommend going to the show and buffet, though calling it a buffet is an understatement. There is so much food to choose from, nicely arranged in little stations. The show is amazing. Plan on spending at least three hours enjoying the fine food and entertainers. We had a room with a terrace overlooking the swimming pool which was very nice. Great products in the bathroom. We spent two nights there and could have easily stayed another two.

Room Tip: We enjoyed our room with a terrace overlooking the swimming pool.
