We booked this hotel through booking.com, as we have booked lots more hotels online and have had no problems in the past. However, on arrival at the Marina View Hotel we were told out booking had not gone through and there was no room available for us in the hotel. After a while of arguing with the receptionist, and being told there was no room, we finally got to speak to a manager, who then magically found a room available for us to stay in. This despite being told by the receptionist and manager that it was our fault and that we bad not confirmed with booking.com. All rubbish as we had the confirmation email in our hands, the receptionist also had a print out of our confirmation in the hotel, with a note written on the form saying they had not received a credit card detail from booking.com. This all while listening to the manager on the phone to someone, and saying its happened "again". So surely a common problem when booking this hotel through booking.com. So beware if booking this way.
After this terrible start to out stay in the hotel, we finally got to our room. The room was clean but very dated and not the largest for a twin room but suitable for the price we paid for a hotel room in Dubai. The walls however, as we found out later that night were paper thin. The people next door were playing loud music and partying in their room til 5am in the morning so kept us awake for most of the night. We did complain to reception about this, but not much was done except phoning the room next door to ask them to turn the music down. All of which lasted 10minutes.
The hotel, however, is in a great location in the marina although on a busy road you dont hear the traffic (although it could be drowned out by the guests next door). The metro station is a two minute walk away and the nearest mall is only a five minute walk away.
We didnt eat in the restaurant, as the menu didnt lool that appealing and the actual restaurant didnt look that great in all honesty. And after our experience at the front desk we didnt want to chance the restaurant staff.
Would not stay at this hotel again, and if you have the budget id advise you to avoid as well and look else where.
We got there early as our flight arrived at 6:00 AM. Hotel went out of their way to get us settled in as quickly as possible. It was difficult getting extra towels and facecloths, but with persistence managed to have more than one hand towel and two bath towels. The room was okay, but really is ready for refurbishing. Front end staff were helpful, but found that English was limited and many had difficulty understanding, so not a lot of diversity in the language throughout the staffing.
We had booked for breakfast and half board, and suggest you not do this hear. The food in the restaurant was poor at best. Breakfast was buffet, and while the food was varied, much of it was dreadfully prepared so close to inedible. The wait staff were always keen to see if you were happy, and kept asking us if the food was good. We did not want to be impolite so would give evasive answers, but the food we sent back to the kitchen was delivering them a clear message that it was below standard.
There are many very good restaurants a short and easy walk from the hotel, and the Marina Mall is just down the street and has a food court with food that far exceeds that of the restaurant, so there is no need to have food in the hotel.
And don't expect a view of the marina - it is hidden by the buildings that actually have a view.
The location is right by the metro, close to a reasonable mall, on a main thoroughfare and close to the marina that makes for an awesome walk. So it is convenient for getting anywhere in the city, but sure there are better hotels just as well positioned.
Stayed with my husband at Marina View in March. Great points about the hotel were as follows - Great Location , walking distance to the really easy to use Metro which connects to all major locations . Close to the beach and some really good utility stores and restaurants near by.
Not so good was the fact that we were kept in a smoking room without informing. Once we reached the room and found it to be reeking of smoke is when we had to practically argue with them to move us to a non smoking floor (me and my husband both are non smokers) There was absolutely no one to attend to when we checked in , so much so that not even a glass of water was offered ( they were being selective in offering welcome drink - don't quite know what that critieria was)
A couple of times there was a delay by our pick up car for our sight seeing , and when we requested the manager to check since he was a local he outright refused to do so. A bell boy in fact helped us on an individual basis and spoke in the local language to get the driver across.
In terms of rooms, the place is decent with a kitchenette ,and room service.
Personally i was appalled with the service standard and would never stay here again, and my suggestion to any one staying here would be to make sure all checks are in place before checking in
Great location because it is close to the beach, the transport and some decent shopping, all within walking distance.
Rooms are dated and need to be modernised and we had a problem with the shower which had to be repaired before we could use it. This wasn't a major problem because the maintenance team came and quickly fixed the shower.
The staff were warm and friendly and most helpful and helped to make our stay enjoyable.
