We booked the overnight trek with the Yellow Hostel in Antigua for Q225, after comparing numerous agencies for a day or two. We weren't sure whether it would be worth paying more as lots of agencies/hostels charged a lot more - we didn't know whether you'd receive a different service (better campsite, food, tent etc), however, on the trek it turned out that people were paying Q225-350, and all of us received the same service from pickup to finish. The service itself was OK. The guides were great, the food was poor (definitely bring more!), the tents were really bad, the mats & sleeping bags dirty - but it's only for one night, so totally doable. However, the trek was amazing, we can't get over the views! Amazing.

This isn't a climb you spontaneously say yes to. Be prepared with lots of layers (hats and mitts included) and tons of snacks (food included was basic and not vegetarian). It's 100% worth it and one of the most incredible views you might have in your lifetime.

This guys organize the BEST tour in town! They provide amazing service, they DEFENETELY have the best basecamp and tents. They offer all the equipment for the cold wather, good and enough food, english speaking guides. They are also doing lots of community work, like helping a huge animal shelter near the city, helping the Acatenango community and families and other great activities with the enviroment and nature! Dont think it twice, book your tour hear and be prepared because is REALLY cold and hard, but the best experiencie of my life. THANKS WICHO AND CHARLIES!

We can not recommend Soy Tours highly enough, everything about how they operated was impressive and I felt safe and looked after through the entire trip.

I’m not going to pretend this hike is easy it really isn’t and you need to be mentally prepared to keep going, but there will always be a guide at hand to make sure you are ok and give you a few words of encouragement!

The tour is organised so you can make sure you have the right kit before you leave for the volcano. Don’t underestimate how cold it is at night you need loads of warm things! Take a walking stick too, you will need it!

With Soy tours you don’t have to carry your tent or sleeping bag they are all set up just below the tree line, the tents were clean looked after and of a good quality as were the sleeping bags.

The food on the tour was amazing so tasty!

The guides for me were the best part of the trip and I think that is really important the approach was very much safety first.

They are cheaper than other companies but there was no skimping on quality in any way.

We can’t recommend Soy Tours highly enough!

Unbelievable two day trek out of Antigua. We booked through Tropicana Hostel (April 17 2018), and could not have been happier. Note that this trip has no frills. You sleep in communal tents (whether you have a group or not), dinner is spaghetti and cup of noodles, and the bathroom seems like a worse option than the bushes. But that is not why you should be hiking this Volcano. The views, the experience, the challenge is why you do this; not the luxury. Our guides Oscar and Alexander, while not English speaking, were fantastic. Full of enthusiasm, you could tell they enjoyed their jobs, and there is always a Spanish speaking interpreter in the bunch who can help out with any inquiries. I could not recommend this hike any higher, if you are considering, just do it.

Some things to note:
- Bring warm clothes (DEFINITELY BRING WARM CLOTHES)
- Bring a good camera (or befriend someone who does). Camera phones could not capture the images provided.
- Check the weather, we knew some people who went and saw only clouds
- Do the (very difficult) 4am hike to the summit. Well worth it

Best of luck and happy traveling
