Perfect beachside bungalow accommodation

Review of Beach Cocomo
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 10 Jun 2016via mobile
This was an affordable, authentic and relaxed style of accommodation which was an amazing choice for me. Upon contacting Beach Cocomo with my 100 questions they were very prompt in responding and happy to answer all my questions informatively and honestly. The service was 10/10, and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. Always happy to have a chat and give knowledge and advice on the area.

I stayed in the smaller bungalow, large enough to accommodate 3 people. It was cosy, clean, basic and had everything I needed. The bungalow is surrounded by a beautifully well maintained garden full of tropical flowers and trees. Don't expect modern or fancy, if you're looking for more casual chilled cabin style then this is perfect! The inside is very clean and cute. The cabin is complete with wooden floors, walls and ceiling, with an antique style touch to the furnishings. It feels very homey and inviting. There's a small fridge, a kettle and the housekeeping is done daily with fresh towels each day.

Just past the garden, the bungalow overlooks the beautiful Aqua blue coral reef. The beach was very clean and full of life! I was the only one on the beach most of the time so it's nice and private and quiet. Just be mindful that because this part of the coast is full of coral and sea life the sand is covered with lots of dried coral that's been washed up, so bring reef shoes with you. This accommodation was in the perfect location for me. It was away from the hustle and bustle of the main touristic areas, on its own hill on the side of a main road that's a 15min drive into Sigatoka Town. Although it is near a road there isn't much noise from where the bungalow is, the only time I could hear cars driving was at night, but it didn't bother me much anyway.

Beach Cocomo has its own beach front restaurant, this was the best food I have eaten in Fiji! Marie is very dedicated to serving Fijian food with a modern twist that's so delicious. Sometimes she incorporates an Asian fusion in her food, this was amazing! They source the freshest ingredients and serve it in a cool beach hut style restaurant with sand on the floor, overlooking the gorgeous beach. Marie cooked something different for dinner each night for me, I felt like I had my own personal chef! Everything was substantial and wholesome. To have Marie serve breakfast/lunch/dinner I needed to give her notice so she could prepare everything fresh. I ate breakfast there each morning and it was so tasty and nutritious.

I absolutely LOVED this place, it's such a hidden gem and I can't wait to visit again!

I was only able to stay for 4 days, but in that time I ate the most amazing organic hand crafted meals by the co-owner Mari, and was afforded the most gracious hospitality by the entire staff. This is not a "resort" like you might imagine with A/C and umbrella drinks by the pool... but it is the most legit way to experience true "Fiji Time" with warm inviting shallow reef waters and gorgeous white sandy beach just a 20 second walk from your bure... to take in the beauty of the coconut trees myriad other local fruit and expansive hardwood trees on the 5-acre grounds right on the water. The trade winds were blowing gently all day to keep me cool, and temperatures were cool in the evenings... I slept like a baby. The main road runs by only 50 meters from the bure, so for the light sleepers a head's-up for the odd truck that may rumble by in the night... but even that could not disturb my slumbers after a day of snorkeling, jogging on the beach and general lazing about in the various hammocks, reclining lounge chairs, and blissfully devouring Mari's meals. I can't recommend this spot enough for the truly wonderful food, and hospitality, the clean bure and simply breathtaking location. Come alone, with friends, or even bring the kids, I'd say. The grounds are lovely, and safe.

Room tip: honestly, the only negative is the road (which did not bother me, but might for more sensitive sleepers).

My friend and I stayed there for a weekend trip. We expected a tranquil pristine beach accommodation which provides everything to relax. These expectations were completely fullfilled - but the Beach Cocomo is much more than that. It is an incredible fun place with very helpful staff/owners and the probably most delicious food we've ever tasted. You immediately feel very welcome there, the athmosphere is familiar ad there is a lot you can do and nothing you need to. The rooms were spacious and clean and although the two of us do not have a tight sleep, we were not disturbed at all by the traffic noises. I went to many places in Fiji and the Beach Cocomo truly belongs to the best! Cannot wait to come back again!

We had the 5 course degustation and the whole experience was amazing. We booked in last minute on the same day and they managed to accommodate us. The food was exquisite, and the portion sizes were generous for a degustation! They had fresh yellow fin tuna caught the night before which was sensational. The restaurant is intimate with sand under your feet and open sides. Its right by the beach so would be great to go for lunch or early dinner to see the coastline.
Highly recommend

Strange experience at this Place. When we arrived, the owner asked us immediately to pay the 3rd day of our stay (2 days werde paid by Credit Card in advance). And this happened before we stored our luggage in one of the two bungalows. We then went into town to buy soft drinks and beer which is not sold at Beach Cocomo.
We had dinner at 6.30, a Three course menue and it was really delicious! But all 3 courses were served within 20 minutes without any breaks! When I asked for a break after the 2nd course, the owner explained that their Food is always freshly prepared..... Well, you would expect something else at this price.
Compared to the noise of the road until late and starting again at 5 am, these were all minor points. The Road passes about 10 meter behind the bungalows which have no windows and no dampening is possible there. During night mainly Trucks are on the road and we had a hard time to find sleep even with earplugs. The high volume of traffic might be due to the devastations by the Cyclones but locals told us that traffic increases every year.
We decided to change the place after one night with only little sleep. Not to forget the excellent breakfast although $40 pP looks a bid overpriced to us.

We felt so lucky to be able to stay at Cocomo as there are only 2 bures! The bures each have their own bathrooms inside them and are spacious. We also felt like we had our own private beach full of shells and things to go through. Isao and Marie are such gracious hosts and made us feel at home with their hospitality and stories that they shared. If you are lucky enough to see the stars reflect off the water in the middle of the night - it is truly a sight. We saw them in the sky but unfortunately it was too cloudy for us to see them reflecting in the ocean. NOW onto the kitchen and the food - it was the best meals we had in FIJI. Marie is such an incredible cook and the fusion of Asian and Fijian cuisine were such a delight. Marie is truly impressive, cooking when power was out and during stormy weather. Everything is fresh and we almost ate all our meals at the resort! We felt so privileged to be in their company!

Room tip: FOR breakfast - ask for a diff menu everyday- we had these pancake pockets & then home made coconut scones for breakfast
