Ok - expected more for the price we paid

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 4 weeks ago
It was ok, not as great as we expected it to be for the price we paid to be honest. Nearly $1k for 4 nights for 2 people.

Positives:
* The staff were amazing, friendly
* Location wise, great. Close to town, bus stop outside so easy enough to go anywhere if you don’t have a car/scooter
* Large spacious rooms
* Problems dealt with quickly - few things not working in our room that were quickly fixed by staff
* Happy hour prices pretty good - cocktails were delicious
* Free snorkelling equipment available (although very rocky outside club Raro - we ended up taking them to the beach outside the Rarotongan where it was much better snorkelling)

Negatives:
* Breakfast was terrible - we only ate 2 days out of stay and ended up going elsewhere for the rest
* Bathrooms were moldy and needed massive upgrade
* No hand soap provided in bathroom
* Towels provided in rooms you could take off skin with they were that hard - (poolside towels you could sign out daily from reception were a lot better)
* Guests were allowed to plug their phones in and have their playlist playing around the pool - one day it was terrible music to the point several guests said something to staff/left and yet the guests were allowed to continue to have their music playing. Staff weren’t very helpful in resolving it after complaints were made. We’d all paid to be there - not to listen to one persons music - that’s why headphones were invented (take requests yes, but to let someone take over the whole playlist - no)
* Daily housekeeping only came once in the 4 days we were there - had to find them one day to get fresh (still hard) towels and loo roll
* Advertise they do daily activities on their website but we only saw the crab racing while we were there & it was only because we went to the bar & saw the board we knew about it.

Overall, we wouldn’t stay again & were very disappointed after spending a good amount of money on our stay.

The staff were very friendly and the resort is situated not far from town and the airport. We stayed in a self catering room, it was quiet and more than sufficient for our needs. Bar snacks were excellent with quick service even when staff were busy. The front office were good with local information e.g. knew which transport to book for guests depending on their needs. The beach is unsuitable for swimming but you can walk amongst the rocks (old bleached coral) and see the sea life in the little rock pools. The resort provides sand shoes. Some guests also snorkeled but most of the guests used the numerous sun lounges or stayed in the pool which had a bar. It was lovely that it was kid free. Servicing of rooms could be improved though, as it took the staff member awhile to do it.

Room tip: We had one umbrella in our room, best bring one or a rain coat.

Stay was fine but terrible communication regarding a refund issue. We had paid $120 for a return airport transfer but the return taxi never arrived. The receptionist that morning ended up having to book us a separate taxi (which we had to pay for separately) so we could catch our flight in time when we realised our prepaid airport transfer was not coming. The receptionist promised a refund of $60 back into our credit card within 3-5 days. Sadly, this has not happened, and the multiple emails to reception has been met with no reply from Club Raro. Very disappointing and frustrating end to a trip.

Room tip: Make sure you sort any troubles there and then. It seems to be very difficult to get any decent reply over email.

We loved our stay at Club Raro. Lovely, breezy lobby, dining, bar and pool area overlooking the wide blue ocean. The food was excellent, the beer was cheap and cocktails at the swim up bar a treat. The staff were friendly and helpful. It is well located in between Muri Lagoon and Avarua and 1km from the beautifully sited Ukelele Bar. Will definitely be returning.

What a pleasant surprise for us. We loved it here. Had ocean view and woke to fantastic views every morning . Got to meet people from all over the world which was a bonus.
Only problem was spending too much time at the swim up bar lol. So many cocktails to choose from.
Great food, staff and amenities.
Totally recommend for couples.

Nice place, bit far away from everything i would stay closer to muri beach next time as taxis are expemsive and buses only every hour. (Not the hotels fault obviously)
Room wise it was a bit average there were only 2 hooks in the bathroom and there were 2 of us with beach towels and normal towels and wet clothes so we had to hang them over the chairs outside where everyone walks past. Shower was also tiny and very short i would hate to be a tall person washing their hair, after a shower the water goes everywhere. Single bed mattress was terrible but the king was good.
Cocktails at the pool bar were terrible the mojito with oranges was strange and just tasted like rind, others just tasted like juice and alcohol. Also its on a beach with rocks not sand but they have reef shoes u can grab if you need.
Both nights we stayed there was buffet dinners so we didnt get to eat here because we are vegan although they said on other nights they could make us something.
Also annoying they dont give free bottles of water u have to give them your bottle and they fill it at the bar, in a country where you cant drink the tap water i think you should get free water in the room.
Overall it was ok but wouldnt stay here again

Room tip: Make sure you have a water bottle to refill
