Hello,

Just finished a 5 day salkantay trek with Salkantay Trekking. Only suggestions I had was to inform them that this was more than an average trek in difficulty and to make the hot springs part of the trek with the cost and not optional as everyone does it!

The trek was absolutely outstanding and in large part made better by our incredible guide Wilson Pineda. He was knowledgeable, funny, caring and extremely encouraging....his passion for the Inca people and this beautiful land shone through throughout the trek. The food was top shelf and plentiful throughout.

An outstanding trek overall. Wilson is worthy of an award IMO.

Wow, what can I say. It was an amazing 4 day experience.

First of all, our guide Andre was incredible. He was intense, but made the trek memorable and meaningful. You can tell he cares deeply about his job, and sharing Inca spiritual beliefs and practices. "Vamos muchachos!"

The food was absolutely beyond our expectations! The best food we ate on our trip. The chef and sous-chef, wow, I don't know how they do it but they managed to beat us to camp, and crank out the most delicious multi-course meals all day.

The camps were super comfortable with thick firm foam mattresses and warm sleeping bags. The wake-up call with tea was bonus for sure.

Truthfully, when reflecting at the end, the cost is INCREDIBLY affordable for what you get. We could never have paid for a hotel for multiple nights, plus 3 meals of amazing food each day, plus the entrance fee to Macchu Picchu AND the train and bus ride back to Cusco for the price we paid for the Salkantay Trek.

I will say, we "trained" for this (by that I mean we hiked with moderately heavy backpacks) each weekend for about 6 weeks leading up to the trek and we were glad we did! We did the 4 day ("short") trek and you definitely need to be ready, both in terms of cardio and leg strength, as they are long days. No need to be hard-core athlete, but this is no stroll along a path. There are some steep inclines and the altitude is an added challenge. I'd recommend doing some hiking, squats, etc. leading up to your trek.

Thanks Salkantay! We wanted a challenge and we got it! But we also got great amenities, food, and a fantastic guide! Our group will remain friends!

PS April was a great time to go in terms of the weather we got! A little rainy for only an hour or so one day, but otherwise very pleasant weather!

Brilliant trip with two funny guides. The meals and snacks were excellent (apart from the dehydrated potatoes, seriously tasted like cartboard)
In all seriousness though, had loads of fun, the hike was tough for some but rewarding for everyone with Machu Picchu at the end of the trip as an inspiring and informative cherry on top of the already delicious pie.

A once in a life time trip with the finale of Machu Picchu. We were led through the Andes by our fantastic guide Vigner who taught us loads about how the Incas lived and history of the area. As he used to be a specific Machu Picchu guide we were treated to a great amount of knowledge.
The cooks, horsemen and guides were always approachable and kind and looked after us all very well for our trek. We were unable to stay in one of the accommodations due to weather but we were compensated for this. The scenery is spectacular and I would recommend this trip to anyone who likes a good hike with some challenging parts.

We came into this not knowing what to expect but the team especially our guide Ricardo really looked after us and kept us going. My partner and I are quite fit and in our 20's and 30's but did struggle with the trek due to the altitude. Our guide was super helpful and was always there for us when we felt sick or struggling to make the summit. Ricardo loved sharing his knowledge of Peru and it's history, Inca culture and nature and always tried to make us laugh and have a good time. We felt super supportive and well cared for. The food was so delicious that it was hard to resist eating more! They even made us our own cake for our honeymoon which was so sweet considering they don't even have an oven to make it, thanks Urbano! The porter Daniel also got all luggage to every stop safely and dry.

The trek itself was within a beautiful scenery with different terrains and landscape. There weren't many people at all for the most part of the trek so it felt like you had the trek to yourself. We also had a young group of six that was a perfect size and made for awesome company. The sky domes were so special and we really loved Hamantay Lake, The Salkantay Pass, Cocomayo Hot Springs, Agius Calliente and walking up the stairs to Machu Picchu and being the first ones in the city and feeling like you had the whole city to yourself even though it was hard to see through the mist. Still worth it and worth waiting for the mist to clear around midday for that perfect shot.

Could not have asked for a better trek, trekking company team and experience. Highly recommend it. Thanks Ricardo you absolute legend and the team.
