Excellent ceviche and truffle gyoza starters. The Tuna Quinoa and Spicy Seafood entrees were delicious and beautifully presented. Enjoyed the cozy leather sofa seating. Our server spoke English, and he was very attentive. Service was well timed.

We dropped into this restaurant on a Saturday night at 9:00 pm without a reservation. It was crowded but we got a table quickly. The mixed drinks were really good and nicely sized. We had both types of gyozas and they were good. I ordered the Salmon Quinsotto which was a piece of salmon on a bed of quinoa in a pesto sauce served like risotto. Hence the name. It was so unusual and tasty. My boyfriend couldn’t into it but I ate the whole thing. He ordered a chicken and sausage stir fry (I cannot remember the name, sorry). We both thought it was tasty. We also shared a noodle dish with chicken that was delicious. After all that, we were too full for dessert so we had to skip it. We left full, tipsy and smiling.

Be warned - don't book via their website because they don't look at it. I did so from off-shore for our group of 12 and received an automated confirmation. We duly turned up at the appointed time and there was no reservation. Luckily they could accommodate us. There were no menus in English but luckily for us, we had Spanish speakers amongst us. However, it doesn't help Tanaka's cause as the non Spanish speakers were helpless. The food, when it eventually came, was delicious. After being 4 days into our trip we knew that all Chilean restaurants serve enormous portions so we wisely ordered entrees for the table and shared our main courses. Don't let the waiters persuade you otherwise. This made the bill affordable and we had more than enough food. I asked about the hiccup about out booking and they shrugged. We were shocked at their indifference.

I had been in this restaurant twice before and food, service and atmosphere were really nice, so last week I made reservations for a large family group for a birthday celebration. Food was still very good, but service was terrible!

Perhaps one or two issues on this list by themselves might have been acceptable, but all together in one meal made for an unpleasant experience, especially for the high price:
* There were only 8 places at the table, even though they correctly wrote "reservation for 9" on their list.
* The waiter gave us the menus and said he would come back to take our drinks order, but returned almost 30 minutes later.
* Meanwhile the hostess took our menus away because she said she needed them for another table. By the time the waiter did come back, some people in our group had forgotten what they wanted to order.
* We got our order almost an hour later, but not all at the same time. When the last plate arrived, some people in our group had already finished eating.
* Considering how slow the service was, we didn't order desserts and just asked for the check. After more than 20 minutes waiting, and complaining several times, another waiter brought the check and seemed very surprised when we told him service had been really bad.

Perhaps we were unlucky that night, but in other restaurants, when the kitchen is backed up or they are short on staff, the waiter will explain the situation and ask for some patience and apologize in advance. None of this happened in Tanaka.

Great food , atmosphere, attentive service, good selection of desserts, excellent chef recommendations. It is quite an expensive restaurant, but is good price/quality ratio.
