A pleasant place to stay

Review of Hotel Malalhue
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 25 Nov 2015
No lift but our guide took the luggage up to the first floor. Good size bedroom with plenty of hot water. Reasonable buffet style breakfast with the option of scrambled eggs. Very generous measures when taking the second glass of whiskey in the evening. Home cooked style of food which suited us. Quite happy to cook lunch when we returned from a trip at 3 pm. Really enjoyed our stay.

This place is fine overall. Our room was definitely on the small side and there wasn't much storage space for luggage etc. Wifi was patchy and intermittent so not really much point having it. One night we ate in the hotel which was fine and decent value, although there are better places for dinner in the town centre. Location is fine; true it's not central but the walk into town really isn't that far and the point of coming to somewhere like Pucon isn't the town itself but the national park areas around it, so if you're moaning about a 10 minute walk into town then you probably need to take a good look at yourself and question if this region is for you! Free off road parking, outdoor swimming pool which we didn't use and nice lounge area. Overall fine and perfectly adequate for a stay of a few days if you're spending most time out and about.

The building and the rooms were great, lots of wood and very comfortable. The hotel is quite a long walk from town and restaurants so not recommended for non-walkers. The staff were efficient but not especially friendly and not much English was spoken. Reasonable breakfast. The hotel is used by groups and seems to be more geared up to them. They offer an evening meal at a very good price (no choices) but we didn't have it. Wi-fi no good in the room but OK on the landing outside. It failed at one point and the receptionist had to re-boot it for me.

Stayed here 1 night in the middle of the week and was almost the only guest in the hotel which gave us a strange feeling altogether. The hotel is located 10-15 min walk from the center on the main toad to town.
The weather at the time of our stay was very warm and the room was tiny and located just above the boiler (room 213) room so it was heated and we asked to switch rooms. We switched to 202 which is a bit more noisier but al least not as hot.
Rooms are clean and very small- in a double room there is a small double bed and almost no room for luggage or anything else. Breakfast was less than average- some coffee, bread, cheese, ham and a stale cake.
There is a small pool in the back and safe parking.
We moved to another hotel in town- Enjoy Pucon, which was cheaper, nicer and had more to offer (on the lake's shore, big pool, gym, spa). A bit old and the shower was lame (room 502) but over roll a good hotel.

S39°16.755' W71°57.491' this chalet style hotel is a 10-minute walk from the city centre of Pucón on a busy road. Our room 101 on the ground floor next to the hotel entrance in December 2014 was comfortable with an excellent bed and good bathroom. The room includes television and a safe, no fridge. The room was well maintained and clean. Wi-Fi was excellent in the lobby but not always in the room. Staff was very helpful, although many lacked basic English language skills. The hotel owner solved that problem.

Breakfast was good with a selection of cakes. The hotel offers dinner, but with a wide choice of restaurants in the city centre, this is much more appealing. Guests dinning in the hotel were not impressed at all by the hotel kitchen. Better to take a 10-minute walk or a 3000-pesos cab drive to the city centre.

Hotel Malalhue is a good hotel with friendly and helpful staff.

Stayed 3 nights. Rooms were clean but small. The hotel is about 10 to 15 minutes walk to the town center. English at front desk is limited so it helps to have some Spanish. The wi-if was good and free. Ordered a toasted cheese and ham sandwich which took over an hour to come. I feel that maintenance maybe an issue in the future . I would stay closer to town centre if I go again.
