I was slightly intrigued when I heard about this sculpture and spotted it instantly while travelling West on Ross Road. It sat down the slope from the Memorial with the Jhelum shipwreck in site.
Unfortunately, it was in need of sprucing up. Rusted, aged and missing a couple of Planets - a real shame to be honest.
The idea in it’s design is great and the identification of scale is interesting. I found it quite wacky given it’s positioning among various monuments and statues remembering past wars.
Overall, i’m glad I took the time to pay a visit but it needs someone to throw a bit of money it’s way to improve / upgrade the current condition.
Our cruise director on the Volendam showed us a photo of this sculpture, so we knew what it was immediately. His photo (presumably taken s few years back was in much better condition that the reality. It wouldn't take much to restore it.
........moments to figure out what it was we were looking at. Most things we seek out in a new area but this one snuck up on us. Kinda looked like a rusty Mr. Potato Head with some pieces missing. Once we figured it out we had a laugh and enjoyed it.
This is just on the way as you walk along the front at Stanley, unfortunately it was either too delicate to start with or it has been roughly handled, but some the small planets on stalks are either missing or bent back. It would not take much to restore.
A little way from Government House, this isn't a bad little sculpture of the Solar System. Worth the walk and a quick picture.
Passed this on our travels and was’nt sure what it was so we went for a look. Good representation of our solar system
