Take one of the Penguin Tours buses from the waterfront. Only £15 return. Runs very frequently. Gypsy Cove is beautiful and a favourite haunt for penguins. We also saw a pod of dolphins swimming in the shallows. When we returned to the car park, there were two tour buses waiting to take customers back to Stanley. Brilliant service and a fraction of the cost our cruise company wanted for a Falklands excursion.

All pumped to use Gypsy cove shuttle for $20, but found a local with 4x4 who actually takes you very close to the dunes to see these beautiful little birds.
Tough walk but doable

Definitely recommend this vs going 3 hours in each direction to see the King penguins, only 15 minutes from town & just as nice!

As in many places around the world the penguins have chosen a very lovely spot for their breeding areas and this is one of them. Just a short drive out of the town with a nice way so no hassle (not barrier free though) and wonderful views of penguins and the coast.

Landed at the visitor centre pier on a cruise ship. Ladies with blue 'penguin' banners sold 20 USD tickets for the shuttle buses to the cove - about 15 mins each way. Jan happened to be on our bus and shared a local introduction. Views of the penguins were good without disturbing them, also of a long beach for about additional 30 mins of walk where there were penguins of other types. Some of our mates took very long and rough 4WD trips across the island and saw less. We still had plenty of time for the excellent Stanley museum before heading back to the ship. The only WiFi around is from buying a shop PAYG card :-( Not acceptable when Elon Musk has Starlink!

A great walk along a sandy beach or the bluffs above the sea. Easy walk a couple miles outside of town. Views of ship wrecks. Some good birding.
