Review of Darwin House

A small and charming farmhouse with 6 rooms. We have to carry our luggage up to the upper floor. Room is clean and comfortable. 3- course delicious dinner was cooked by the owner operator. Homegrown Carrot soup, Tooth-fish with young potatoes & veg, and chocolate pudding, portion size good for 12 persons for just the 2 of us. A good stop over.

Nice welcoming B&B. Arriving from Chile, we were taken straight to Dawin which was a good idea. Only stayed one night, comfortable, newly renovated room, good food (fudge dessert too big portion and much too sweet, though) but otherwise just to our liking. Our next day transfer to Bleaker Island worked well. Recommended.

Warm welcome which is as expected with all the 'Camp' lodges. A lovely lounge and conservatory in which the all day complimentary tea/coffee can be enjoyed with a lovely view of the area. There is also a smaller lounge which houses the well stocked honesty bar. They even had a selection of ale from the Falkland Beerworks. The usual set menu for dinner. Sad to say on the second night of our stay the meal was not of a good standard and was served lukewarm. Yes we could have complained but surely all food should be served hot? Our room was large and had a lovely large shower with modern controls that worked well and had a constant temperature.

This would have got our better vote but there are costs which were not made clear when we booked. The accommodation is clean and the food not bad. However we do know that the Falklands can be expensive but this was actually the worst value we had while we were there. The cost of the Airport transfer to the place was £45 each. This is extortionate. The bust had six passengers and if they were all couples they get nearly £300 ponds for each trip. We thought taxi fares in England were dear. The cost of £17 for the transfer to the local airstrip is also over the top. Be prepared to be rooked.

Room tip: No difference

What a nice welcome we had on arrival, taken straight to our room, which was well appointed, vey clean and comfortable. Bed was great, had an excellent nights sleep, very peaceful atmosphere, dinner was served by the Chef, and hit the spot perfectly, and my full English breakfast was just the icing on a first class cake. Well done guys, we will be back, hopefully for a longer stay..

Stayed here for two nights as part of a trip to the Falkland Islands. The lodge is lovely and the staff are very friendly and helpful. On arrival we were offered tea and biscuits while we sorted out our plans for our stay. We had a hire car so did not need any trips arranged, but we were offered support to make our stay as comfortable as possible. We wanted to climb Falklands highest hill and our host took us to show us where to start the walk and lent us a map etc.

The meals were lovely and reasonably priced as was the wine etc.

I would say that this was the best lodge we stayed in outside of Stanley.
