Accompanied my wife here for CNY shopping and had my lunch here. Waterloo Street and Bugis area is one of the most dynamic and vibrant shopping streets in Singapore.
When I went with my wife to the 3rd floor of Albert Centre Food Centre, it was flooded with so many shoppers, all eagerly and enthusiastically scrambling for premium sea products, sundry foodstuff and Chinese New Year goodies. From dried anchovies, dried shrimps, abalone, dried oysters, Hokkaido scallops to chinese sausages (lap cheong), Korean mushrooms, fish maws, American walnuts, premium dried Atlantic Sea cucumber, Xinjiang Red dates, candy and nuts, you can all find it at this One-Stop centre. It is so convenient and prices are reasonable.
The emphasis on having a sumptuous Family Re-Union Dinner is ingrained in every Chinese family aspiring for a bountiful new year ahead - 年 年 有 鱼 and a harmonious family relationship 家和萬事興. From personal cultivation to family cohesiveness to a nation prosperity and global peace that is the Confucian philosophy of a perfect society - 修身、齐家、治国、平天下. It may sound utopian but family re-union is a must for many of us.
After the shopping, we descended to the ground floor for our lunch. This is where the Food Centre is located. My wife was in a rush and hectically ordered a bowl of Teochew Minced meat fish ball Mee Pok noodles (S$5/-) from Ang Seng Teochew Noodle stall at #01-69 and a bowl of traditional Lor Mee from Yan Xia Traditional Noodles (#01-71) also priced S$5/-). Not a very good choice as I heard Hock Lee Fishball Noodle (#01-102) is a more recommended choice. The Angel Horse Teochew Fish Soup at #01-95 and Ah Seng Bak Chor Mee at #01-77 are also better options.
Nevertheless, my experience with the Ang Seng Teochew Noodle was not a good one. The volume of noodles is scantily little and the food tasted salty. The bowl of fish Lor Mee is actually quite good. Not salty, ingredients plentiful and had much savoury taste.
After lunch, we proceeded to OG for shopping. She managed to hunt for some good clothing for my mother and bought a pair of shoes for herself. The car park at OG was full. As it was a Sunday, there was free parking at Blk 31 kelantan Lane but you need to walk about 5 minutes. We spent about 3 hours here but is good half day tour.
