Setting foot on another one of the many shifting sand bars in Cebu! Sumilon Island sand bar sets apart from the rest due to its density. It does not sink underwater thus visible and available for a sand-bar-fun, anytime all year round without having to check low tides and high tides. Like many other sand bars, it changes shape. This one however makes its shifting location interesting, depending on the month of the year. A challenge for google map to spot!

- We got the Vangies Boat PHP 1500 for 3 people for 15 min boat ride with other 20 more people on the boat. ( if you are going to sumilon just to see the sand bar i suggest ask the other people that are about to take the boat and ask them to add you in the group because its only 2000Pesos for 9 people altogether so it will work out as 110 pesos per person )
- This sand bar is better to see in the afternoon not at 10-12 pm -
The marine garden is actually across all the boat port not very safe and its very dagerous to get too.
- for what we have paid its way over rated and its not as enjoyable

You might be forgiven for thinking that you are going to visit the Bluewater Resort to look around and get a commanding view of the surrounding sands, flora & fauna, however once you have paid the 3,000 peso ferry you begin to realise that it’s not going to be at all cheap, true enough the location is stunning, what I don’t like is being expected to cough up another 2,000 pesos for the privilege of entering the grounds and told in no uncertain terms that we are merely the public, and so we were just huddled on a small area against the cliff face, disappointed is an understatement.

Sumilon is a very popular Island in Cebu, a must see destination when visiting the Queen City of South. What makes this place so great and famous to both locals and foreigners, aside from it’s captivating view is it’s safety and cleanliness. The boat ride from the main island to Sumilon is only 10 mins and equipped with life jackets. Also, the day after we visited the place, it is going to be closed for 1 week (April 10-16) for rehabilitation and clean up. For the expenses, it will be worth it, don’t worry and it would be better if you will bring your own food. So don’t hesitate and visit Sumilon Island!!

A trip to Sumilon Island is an activity you can add in your itinerary after whale watching in Oslob, Cebu. Just take a multicab ride in going to the place where you will ride a small boat for Sumilon Island. You will reach Sumilon in about 10min. When we arrived in the island at around 8am , the place was already packed with people . This place has already become a tourist attraction next to whale watching due to its sand bar , clear water and white, powdery sand. But this place still needs improvements. There are no huts where you can put your things. The toilet costs ₱20 ! Hope next time we visit this place, there will be more necessary facilities.
