We just got back from Coco beach island resort in Puerto Galera and we stayed there for 3D2N. If i will rate it from 1-10 i will give it a 9.

Getting there: 10/10

Our pick up point was at the Berjaya Hotel in Makati at 6:45am. We arrived at 6:15am which is 30min earlier than our appointed time. Shortly after, around 6:30am the shuttle from coco beach arrived which was also earlier than our expected pick up time. To our suprise, we were the only guests to be picked up at day so we had the entire shuttle/suv for ourselves. It was a two hour drive going to the private port(berberyani port) not the batangas port we were expecting. Our kind driver was Kuya arman, he drove us to our port destination. When we got to the port, our motor boat is waiting and it is still me and my bf who will ride the same.

Upon arrival: 9/10

The motor boat named Mimaroca brought us to Coco beach island resort in a span of 45min or so. When we got to the resort, the crew greeted us with a song, welcome drinks and shell necklaces were placed on our necks ( a pretty accessory which i used the entire stay for my outfits) The staff from the front desk greeted us and took our information and another staff helped us with our bags to our room (deluxe room-3A)

Rooms: 8/10

Our room is composed of 1 queen sized bed, a couch and coffee table and dresser with mirror. It also has a cabinet wherein you can place your bags and clothes as well as hangers to hang your clothes on. Outside we have a balcony overlooking the beach with comfortable bamboo sala set and hammock/ "duyan" in case you want to just lounge outside your room.

The bed also has that "kulambo effect" or mosquito net hanging on the sides which were carefully arranged by the service family at night with a small gift placed on it and beddings arranged.

My only problem with the room is the bathroom. Its kind of dark or not that well lighted for me especially in the shower area. Also, the water as explained to us was treated sea water hence, there is that salty taste and dry skin feeling when you shower

Service: 8/10

We have a service family or their idea of a room service wherein outside your room near the balcony there is a string which will ring a bell and the service family will come to your room. Our assigned ate and kuya were ate sally and kuya larry. They welcomed us and told us that we just have to ring the bell if we need anything.

We told them we wanted our breakfast for the next day to be served in our room. They served our breakfast the next day and we had plenty of food we even had it for our late snack after our activity that day.

At night the service family arranges the bed conducive for sleeping and other activities you would want to do in bed. Hehe. It was arranged in a romantic kind of way.

The staff at the main restaurant were also very polite and accommodating, our server most of the time is kuya efren who never fails to give us a smile and recommend their specialty.

I do have to say that the place should give a little attention to their medical clinic as my boyfriend left his medicines for cold i told him he can get from the clinic as it does not need any prescription. Upon going to the clinic he was disappointed to find out that they did not have neozep in their med cabinet and i was even disappointed when we had to go again to the clinic after our snorkeling activity and bf had some cuts and abrasions from the corals and the nurse on duty told us that they dont have band aids as well.

Another i would like to call the attention of the staff is that our service family did not empty our trash bins daily especially in the bathroom which was already overflowing by the third day. They also forgot to give us new towels each day that we had to request for it from them.

Overall, they take care of their guests and make sure that their guest do enjoy their stay.

Food/restaurant/bar: 9/10

On our first day we had lunch at the carabao restaurant/main resto and ordered sizzling sisig ( which is gooooood and cooked just right) and cordon bleu which is also good.

For dinner we tried the trattoria place which was another restaurant in the island, the pizza was great. The taste is superb! The price is okay, its not too much and you get your money's worth.

After dinner we tried their barracuda bar on the second floor of the main restaurant and tried their cocktails and beer.

They also have a happy hour at 4-5pm in the main restaurant and the bar at the silent pool wherein you can order cocktails and get another one for free! We availed of such on our 2nd day while thinking of getting something for our snack/coffee break. Happy hour is also available at the barracuda bar at 10-11pm and if you're up until 12midnight at the bar, the bartender will give you pica-pica for free!

Your stay in coco beach is inclusive of free complimentary breakfast and their breakfast buffet never disappoints. Aside from the fact that our service family brought to our rooms plenty of food; when we decided to go down to the main resto for breakfast, there were lots of food to choose from. From bread to fruits to hotdogs and eggs cooked right there and then just the way you like it.

I did not like however the bolognese pasta we ordered for snack since the pasta was not cooked al dente but the sauce was okay. We also tried their sandwiches, we ordered ham and cheese and grilled chicken sandwich. We were suprised to see that it was big and the presentation and plating was nice, it even has french fries on the sides. Again, the price was not excessive.

They also offered fruit shakes made from real fruits.

Activities:

There are 101 suggested activities which can be done in your stay at the resort, we did not however do all 101 but were able to do some such as the snorkeling at the long island beach with free boat ride, soap making workshop, swimming at the silent pool which happens to be somewhere up in the hills wherein you have to climb a number of stairs passing by all the other nipa huts/cottages but once you get to the top, the view is nice and there is another bar there, among others.

Going home:

The boat ride going back to the port was longer than when we first arrived, it took us an hour and 15min ride of the Genesis boat. When we docked at the port, kuya driver ( i failed to get his name) helped us with our bags and we were on our way. Again we were the only passengers of the big van ( yes, we sure are lucky). Our driver is very kind and conversant and careful in his driving. He even let us eat our late lunch when we had our stop over at this gas station in Sta.Rosa. Kudos for you kuya!

Overall we enjoyed our stay at the coco beach island, given then chance we would definitely be coming back and will share the experience and refer the place to our friends and family.

Room Tip: Dont expect much, the rooms have no airconditioners but no need for such since the resort is after the beach feel/nature ambience which explains the nipa huts for cottages made of "sawali" or woven split bamboo mats used to construct walls. The place gets really quiet at night and it gets really cold in the morning you have turn the electric fan off. Choose the higher deluxe rooms if you're after the view but if you're not fond of hiking choose the cottages in 1A-5A

Coco Beach is nice for 2 days unfortunately, we stayed for 5. It reminded my husband and I of Gilligans Island. We choose a room with no a/c but, wth the fan it was fine. The service families are quite prompt and unfortunately we had to see them quite often for our water and toilet. The power went out several times while we were there which was strange. The food was delishish (that's what got it a four star from me) and you have several restaurants to choose from. The staff was friendly enough. Beware of the "free" things to do, we took the free boat out and were hounded to buy junk the second we stepped on the beach. Also, we took a smaller boat out to snorkel (it was nice) but, were never told it would cost until we returned to the beach. I have no problem tipping but, what the boat man wanted was outrageous. We also booked a trip to go see some falls but, cancelled when we were told the jeepney part of the trip would be p1,800. I live in Manila that's a lot of money. For the weekend it was fine but, we were ready to go on day 3. The boat trip out to the beach was fine but, our return trip was a comedy of errors.

Room Tip: Go for the deluxe. We were in 11a and it was nice and not much noise. I

The private pick up service was a bit of a disaster. The minibus sent to collect us was far too small so unfortunately two of our five (I was one!) had a very uncomfortable two hour journey to Batangas on a bench in the back with all the luggage. Once at the port the boat was very late. When we arrived we were greeted with shell necklaces and a welcome drink. We had booked one deluxe and two standard rooms yet as the standard rooms had not been prepared we were all upgraded to deluxe.

The rooms were very basic as is expected due to the traditional Filipino style. The rooms had a fan but no A/C yet managed to stay nice and cool throughout the day.

The resort has two pools, a large family pool that is used for the free scuba session and a "silent" pool - which is a trek to get to, but worth it for the relaxed atmosphere.

The restaurant menus are somewhat limited in choice but the food was nice enough. Price wise they are about average.

There is a bar area where you can play darts or pool which was good, happy hour plus their recommended "Weng Weng" cocktail was a recipe for a bit of a fuzzy head!

We didn't bother with the free boat excursions - instead we opted just to spend our time relaxing in the pool which was nice enough for the few days we were there.

Overall it is a nice place, the service families are very efficient, the resort is clean and tidy. A bit of restoration work wouldn't go amiss. Suitable for short breaks but probably no longer than a few days.

Room Tip: Get a deluxe room, some are quite high up but the views are worth it

A wonderful short break out of Manila town. We took the Coco Beach shuttle bus from Makati , the boat was waiting for us when we arrived in Batangas, so we arrived at the resort at 10am, making the most of our first day.
The pool facilities are great, the food was excellent - every meal, including the 'free' breakfast, and relatively inexpensive. Happy hour at 4pm was our meeting point for the evening!
I loved the family co-op idea of the resort - families are accommodated onsite and appointed as 'house mums' for certain areas. If you have any problems, just call them and they will help. All the family members contribute to various tasks around the resort - in the workshop, in the soap factory and as general helpers, keeping the site clean at all times. They were all very friendly and nice to seem them living in this environment.
Take the free boat trip in the morning to a nearby beach, yes you will be approached by locals wanting to sell things - but do take the little boats to the Coral Gardens to do snorkeling. They have a line on their boat that you hold on to as they drive slowly over the coral and the fish that you see are the best we have ever seen in one place - the variety and numbers are amazing. We also paid a little more to see the giant clams. That was worth the extra 200 pesos as well!
And visit the soap factory - then buy the soap at the shop - and the shampoo is wonderful too! Wish I had bought more. All made with fresh coconut oil from the trees on the island.

Room Tip: We had hut 4A which was a Deluxe, and one of the best I think. We had a seaview from our balcony, and a gentle breeze that kept us cool. The walk was not as far up as some of the other Deluxe. Sally was our 'house mum' who was very efficient with her 2 sons, made up our rooms when we went to breakfast and answered the bell when we locked ourselves out! She has 8 huts - 2 units together, so you do have a neighbour. Other higher numbers (60's) are higher up the hill on the other side, but don't have as good a view. Ours only had a fan but at this time of the year it was fine.
