A nice boutique hotel

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 13 Dec 2023via mobile
A boutique hotel, very convenient location, lots of small local restaurants with excellent food at very cheap price. Close to Ladies Market, Pets (dogs, cats, gold fish…) Markets. Almost right next to a special bus stop going to Zhu Hai ( China).
Highly commended “door man” Vincent & Geoffrey provided excellent service, made you feel very safe and welcomed!

Very conveniently located near to Prince Edward Station and bus stops. Many Food outlets and convenient stores nearby. We had a room on the 24th floor, the view was fantastic. Staff were polite and friendly.

I had booked this hotel via Expedia many months ago, even before this protest issues start and naturally I wanted to consider to postpone this trip. My flight is via Singapore Airlines and they are kind enough to offer a one time exceptional refund of the flight fares due to the current protest situation but as I have booked the hotel under the "non refundable" option, the hotel replies that there will be strictly no refunds even thou the current situation is so messy.

To make things worse, I realised that Expedia is offering lower prices (almost SGD$500 difference for 2 rooms) now compared to what I have booked months ago (thinking that I had snagged a great deal then). I checked with Expedia but they replied that they do not have any price guarantee which I know some other websites offer. Enough said, so I decided I have to carry on with this trip despite the protest situation,

The location of the hotel is just located 5 mins from Prince Edward mtr. There is a security counter on the ground level and they give good advice whether the streets or mtr stations are closed due to the current protest situation.

Housekeeping is also pretty neat and complimentary bottled drinks are topped up daily for the guests.

During the day time, most of the shops are opened as per usual unless there is protest nearby and they will pull down the shutters and close the shops.

Just a note, the hotel is located pretty near to the "popular" protest area as Mongkok Police station is just around the corner.

The reason why I only rated 3 stars is due to the check in counter which is abit inflexible thou. We had 2 rooms (1 quadruple room and 1 normal room) and requested for a slightly late check out for one of the smaller rooms as we have elderly folks together with us but the request was refused citing that there is full occupancy and thus the check out time can only be extended till 12.30pm as they need to clear the room for the next guests.

Since our flight is at 8pm, we have no choice but to linger at their lobby for almost 2 hours while waiting for our transport to come and pick us. They have a small area to store the luggage if you wish to go out thou.

During our 2 hours waiting time at the lobby, there is not even more than 2 check ins and to be honest, with hotel vacancies in hong kong at an all time high, i'm sure the hotel could have done better to leave a better impression on the guests so that we will come back for our next trip.

Thus most likely, even if i were to go back hong kong, most probably i wont stay in this hotel due to the inflexibilities that I have mentioned above. But other than that, the hotel service is pretty standard but not exceptional.

Room tip: quadruple room for more people

We booked an incredible flight deal back in February 2019 for this October 2019 stay. Back in February, we of course had no idea that the HK protests would happen, nor that they would continue for months. Despite this, we did go ahead with our trip.

When we booked, we wanted a location close to the MTR station. This hotel is conveniently located right by Prince Edward Station, and about a block away is Mong Kok station. I have stayed in HK several times before and knew that off Nathan Road is a central location with lots to see, eat, and do.

Unfortunately when we stayed was the first time in 40 years that the ENTIRE MTR system was down. So the locational would have been fantastic but we did not use the MTR this time.

Thank God that the Cityflyer busses from the airport go along Nathan Road, so we were dropped off by bus about a block from the hotel.

We walked everywhere and found many things still open. You do need to play things by ear and walk by a restaurant to see if it's open or not, and some businesses closed early. Not all websites reflect the current operating hours, so you have to go and check.

You enter on the ground floor to a reception/security area and the hotel lobby is on a different floor. The people on the ground floor were very friendly and kind, asking about the state of the streets and whether we would be heading out again, etc. They were helpful in providing alternative transportation ideas for the day.

As the main entrance is off Nathan road, we did not see too much damage to this street, but as mentioned many businesses are closed. The nearby traffic lights were damaged/turned off/not working so crossing the street was interesting, but no worse than other Asian cities I've visited.

Our room was large and had great views. We could see quite a lot of commotion from the streets, and at night during the protests we could hear chanting but not loudly, and mainly from the bathroom. Plenty of space for our luggage and to spread out.

Bottle of water is available per guest per day, which was fantastic. I would stay here again.
