Review of H1 Hotel
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 4 Apr 2019via mobile
Small, affordable hotel room ...nothing fancy there are free WiFi in room and nice shower room!
Their location is great walking distance from malls, Fa Yuen street, must try street food and importantly 2 mins walks from subway station.

Only disappointment is no more mobile phone complementary during staying period anyhow it’s acceptable.

We spend 6 nights in the H1 hotel in kowloon in a "deluxe" twin room.

I will start with the pros:
- clean room/clean bathroom
- the location of the hotel, near the metro and very central in kowloon
- the overall price (for hk)

The cons:
- the beds were so hard, if you are used to sleep on the floor you will love it
- the smell of the room (mold?)
- very loud from the outside (ok it is in the middle of the action)
- constant noise from the inside of the hotel (door slamming etc.)
- unfriendly hotel staff at the reception

The conclusion is: Yeah it's ok for a short stay, would I go there again? No, I would spend a few more bucks for another place.

We stumbled upon the H1 Hotel a block from the Cordis where we were staying a couple of years ago and decided to give it a try.
It’s two streets from the trendy Langham Place Mall and busy Mongkok MTR Station which makes its location ideal.
I had originally booked two rooms online but didn’t take note of the dates. Canceling would mean a financial penalty but I called and later wrote in to explain the situation. I then rebooked directly with the hotel.
Check-in time is a late 3pm but that suited our arrival flight. The reception counter staff all speak English so communication shouldn’t be a problem.
The hotel is pretty no-frills (not even a token cafe) and you have to buy your own bottled water but there are three apparently famous local eateries just next door. These include a roast goose restaurant and a braised beef joint.
We had booked a quad room (over 400 square feet; larger than a lot of HK apartments) which was comfortable for the three of us. There is a USB charging port next to the bed but I won’t rely on it and brought my own chargers.
As is the bane of all hotels, even with the Ritz-Carlton in Shanghai, there is a serious lack of clothing hooks in the room. I have always advocated bringing your own lever-action suction hooks (available cheaply at $2 stores around Asia) to address your own needs.
As it is an inexpensive hotel, moderate your expectations. The WiFi in the room is slow, the channels on TV are limited. The aircon control only controls the fan speed but not the temperature (how do I know this? I brought my own digital thermometer).
The H1 will suit you fine if you intend to spend the whole day out and only intend to use the room for sleeping. If you want something more swanky, go to the Cordis as I did the last time.
When I returned home, I received an email from the hotel informing me they had waived the fee for canceling my first booking - fantastic!
I feel Hong Kong is getting more expensive and every bit of savings will help.

Simple hotel with all the basic amenities. Room for 2 is fairly small but you get what you pay for. No frills, nothing fancy. If your main itinerary is in Mongkok then this place is recommended. A lot of convenience stores around, Langham Mall is a stone's throw away and of course the night markets are about 10min walk. The airport bus also stops nearby so it's a recommended mode of transport especially going back to the airport. From the airport, the stop is quite farther.

Spent 19 days there in a superior double room. Staff was helpful and pleasant. Hotel was clean and at convenient location. Shopping mall is just cross a street, local food market is just at the corner, local food restaurants are nearby.

Spent 2 nights there in the superior triple.

The hotel is very close to Mongkok Station Exit C4 and in the shopping area with many eateries. If you have heavy luggage like we did, you may need to plan to use other exits (than C4) with elevator. The room we got were very spacious. We, a group of 3, could open our 32” bags at the same time and still plenty of room left. This is the huge plus, compared to other hotels in Hong Kong. The room was very clean and with very good lighting and nice view as well. Hair dryer, fridge, TV included. Their double bed was comfy and bigger than expected.

Now come the cons. They requested a refundable deposit of HK$500 or other major currencies, preferably in cash, so plan accordingly.
No drinking water offered in room. The vending machine sells HK$7 a bottle (a small one)
Check-in starts from 3pm, slightly later than most hotels.
Lastly, the fire alarm might go off, which led us to walk down 12 floors to the lobby and found no explanation from the front staff.
