After reading some very good reviews of Sushi Itsu, I decided to give it a try.

I went with a friend and we’d the first seating (12:00 to 13:30). We both took the seasonal omakase set.

There’s quite a lot of food. Highlights of our lunch included:

- pipa shrimps
- oysters from Senposhi in Hokkaido
- kumura prawns from Okinawa (they’re still swimming in the fish tank near us before they’re cooked for 15 seconds)
- Uni from Nemuro in Hokkaido

All other dishes were either very delicious or delicious. At HK$680 each person, the seasonal omakase set offered excellent value for money.

I’m yet to try dinner at Sushi Itsu. In the meantime, I highly recommend this place if you fancy some very nice sashimi and sushi for lunch.

When it comes to value, Sushi Itsu offers an excellent one with its 25 courses Omakase dinner featuring sashimi, Otsumami, sushi, soup, and dessert for HKD$1280 (as of April 2021). Situated in one of these commercial buildings in Causeway Bay, Sushi Itsu has a modern decor with a sushi bar along a few tables. The decor is modern simple. The 25 courses feature a variety of appetizers, including Japanese tomato and various kinds of marinated raw fish & shellfish, sashimi and sushi. There are really plenty of food, but I feel the chef can be more organized with the menu. It is strange to get a piece of sashimi after a few pieces of sushi. It was still bit strange to get a piece of fried smelt fish in the midst of various sushi. There are two kinds of dessert including a lovely tempura strawberry topped with condensed milk and then a Japanese jelly, which is only available for spring time. All the sushi chefs are local but are very friendly and obviously spent time in various high end Japanese restaurants in the city. Their expertise is clearly displayed through these 25 dishes. However if you are looking for a more traditional Japanese experience like a few of the high end sushi joints, this is not the place, but if you want a good value high end sushi experience, Sushi Itsu will be the right choice.

Sushi Itsu is a newly opened Japanese restaurant in Causeway Bay. The small restaurant does not have private rooms. The counter seats are the most popular and one is strongly advised to make reservation in advance to secure them. Servers and chefs are friendly and patient. The $1,280/person Omakase dinner set is vibrantly designed with 25 courses prepared from high-quality seasonal ingredients. The super crunchy jellyfish, flavorful monkfish liver, velvety smooth Japanese oyster king from Nagasaki, and magical “Angel Tear” raindrop cake dessert are some of the highlights of the delectable meal.
