…second home…

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 21 Sept 2024via mobile
…in short we needed a place to crash, after coming from work then attending ‘Disney Halloween Time-Magic Access Night’ last week, after normal park hours … we knew it would end late and we would be too tired to go home… luckily we have our second home (at Disney Explorers Lodge), whatwith:

…The comfy beds, the fantastic view from the balcony, the clean and spacious room itself (the bathroom/bathing amenities have been upgraded since last April…very nice)

…you have to try the Tandoori chicken pita pocket, and their version of Pad Thai at World of Color…consider yourself lucky if you’re in Ruby’s section..shes wonderful… then theres the always amazing breakfast at Dragon Wind, with her friendly & efficient castmembers, floor and kitchen…and of course character greeting/pic taking made the experience more memorable for diners young & old…

Too bad there was a thunderstorm during the day as we had planned to take a dip in the pool …but then again, we were still tired the next day so we just chilled in the room after breakfast till check out…

Thanks to Tiffany & especially Louise for the warm welcome and smooth check in…’Sky, thanks again for your assistance with transportation matters’ …’KC, you’re best for always remembering us, as soon as you see us coming towards the entrance’…Last but not least, to our dear friend Joe… we felt bad that we had to cancel an anniversary booking because of the typhoon the week before, but glad we had a chance to make it up, even for another reason…but our friend Joe made this one night a belated celebration of sorts in various ways …thank you so much…Go!Joe!!

Dear Readers, The Lodge could never feel like home to us, or as a comfortable hotel to relax in while visiting/staying at Disneyland Resort, without people like Joe and the castmembers i’ve mentioned above (or in previous reviews)…so while you enjoy the hotel’s facilities, feel free to look for them, have a chat, if not for assistance on anything…either way, they will always find a way to make it a magical day

I stayed here with my wife for two nights as we were stopping at Hong Kong airport as part of a flight connection.

Disneyland and their hotels are on Lantau Island, the same island as the airport. Unfortunately, whilst the Disneyland website makes it very clear how to get there from the centre of Hong Kong, there is not much information of what options are available if travelling from the airport, so we opted for a taxi. Not sure if trains or buses do operate from the airport to Disneyland, but it would be useful if this information was included on their website.

The area that Disneyland is in, is absolutely stunning, and the taxi ride from the airport to the hotel showed us some amazing scenery. We have visited all six Disney resorts around the world, but Hong Kong Disneyland is in the most naturally beautiful location of all the Disney parks.

The hotel has a beautiful view over the sea and the grounds have some really pleasant gardens.

We visited in June which is Hong Kong’s stormy season so we were pleased that the hotel kept the pool open until 22:00, otherwise we would not have got to use it in the daytime when the storms were happening.

The room was comfortable and the hotel shop (thank goodness) sold waterproof rain ponchos which were definitely needed for the time of year we visited. Buses to the theme park ran about every 10-15 minutes and did not stop at any other hotels, making this the quickest and easiest way to get to the park. It was walking distance, but due to the rain we preferred to get the buses to the park.

We loved the theme of the hotel and it was a really pleasant place to spend time. We were only there for 2.5 days but could definitely have stayed longer.

The title of my review is a bit harsh but you will see why.
We booked a room initially for 2 nights in the middle of July through Expedia but due to visa issues with my wife we had to postpone until late July/August. We contacted the hotel direct to try to move the room dates to 31st July 2nd August but was told it was not possible because we booked through a third party but they would try to help if the third party (expedia) contacted them. We explained this to Expedia and they did contact the hotel twice to be refused 100% they would not cooperate so we had to cancel the rooms losing all the money we paid and had to rebook.

Notwithstanding that when we finally arrived at the hotel it was magical for my daughter. The hotel is amazing so well designed ( there is a review on here that says otherwise but I think they need to get a life) Everything was great from the welcome and check in procedure to the Checkout. Free shuttles to the park and easy to get to from the airport $20HK and its own MTR station but you still need to walk out and find the shuttle bus to your hotel.

I recommend booking a character breakfast so that the kids can have a photo opportunity with Disney characters.

This place is 100% geared for kids as it should be, plenty of activities on rainy days great food for all and the Deluxe room we had was fantastic, two double beds coffee tea 24/7 disney on TV.
The grounds were beautiful well manicured and you were able to viosit the other 2 resort hotels if you wished which were a short walk away.

Room tip: Make sure you book the hotel through Disney and not through an agent.

I was thoroughly impressed with my stay at Disney’s Explorers Lodge. The room was quite spacious by Hong Kong standards. There are regular shuttles to the park. And HK Disneyland has its own MTR station.

The resort offers a room service menu. Which is rare for Disney hotels. The food was always delivered on-time and delicious. I also tried the quick service and Chinese restaurant Dragon Wind. Everything was good. I found service at Explorers Lodge to be very efficient in general.

For longtime Disney fans the resort’s design will feel familiar. Combining elements of Aulani and Animal Kingdom Lodge, as well as local Asian influences, to create a pleasant environment to wander around in. Beautiful gardens and extensive outdoor spaces add to the sense of adventure. I look forward to coming back to this resort.

At first appearance the hotel seems satisfactory, but now after having experienced it for two days the sad reality is a poor example of the hospitality, service, and staff Disney properties are known.

The main resort is a stripped down, mid-level variant of the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Really generic version and more like a moderate level hotel at Disney World in Orlando. No charter and built to the minimum standards to appear like something it clearly is not.

Rooms are decent but the mattresses are single tops with no box spring. The result is like sleeping on a futon. They provide the bare minimum of towels and wash clothes (2) each for a room with three guests.

The staff appear to be nothing but walking robots that have no personality, provide minimal help with questions, and provide a cold, off putting feeling to the guest experience.

The pool staff are useless and rude if English is your main language. Especially rude was a larger blonde haired Asian attendant, who was nothing more than a sour, rude, off putting human who belongs nowhere that involves customer contact. She is the personification of a horrible service worker. If you stay here and see her, avoid her at all costs.

Unfortunately, if you want to experience Disneyland Hong Kong there are minimal choices for Disney Lodging. The other options should really be investigated further before you chose this property.

Rooms were super spacious and clean . The only downside is there is no bath tub and toilet is a bit small but everything is clean.
However , my friend who used to stay at the hotel received toothbrush in a Mickey mouse tin box as part of her toiletries but when I enquired I was informed that it needs to be purchased?

WiFi is strong and the view we had from the small nook is beautiful which overlooked the bay.

The swimming pool also feels natural as though we were by the sea side .

There is a play room for the kids to entertain themselves and activities planned out on different timings so the kids will always be entertained !

The hotel itself is big hence there are plenty of spaces to explore . It felt like an African themed resort. Which I preferred compared to the other 2 Disney Hotels .

We had dinner at World of Color Restaurant . The halal meals were however limited and it was SUPER EXPENSIVE and me coming from Singapore , felt the pricing was super ridiculous . A bowl of laksa cost us 35SGD.

There is a free shuttle to Disneyland which is a plus .

On a side note .My daughter only got a happy birthday badge for her birthday stay . Kind of disappointed that a big brand like Disney doesn't give much on birthdays .

Hope to come back because overall we had a nice time at the hotel. !
