What an experience! A total concept bundling Basecamp Masai Mara, Dorobo and Eagle View made this the perfect inline safari tour for us all. Thanks a million to Ton Kay, Dorobo and all the professional staff who made this an unforgettable visit to masai- country!

The eco camp of Basecamp is a very special experience. Amazing settings with tents overlooking a crocodile-river with the game reserve but meters away from the tent's terrace allows for viewing animals coming down to drink with a cocktail in your hand. One night we even saw an elephant just across!

The camp is run by local Masai who are extremely friendly and helpful. The work they do for the local community, in terms of employing women for beadwork and supporting schools and other projects, gives the feel-good factor to a night's price which could feed a minor village. In addition, they do everything eco which is nice. My girlfriend did not approve of the outdoor eco-toilet's quite strong smell though, this they promised was being replaced.

The local masai guides they have are also great for game drives. We booked with travel agency Basecamp Explorers (who runs the place) who sent a guy they claimed was a Silver guide with us, but really didn't know anything (beware using that company for guides), but the local guides complemented with excellent knowledge and guiding ability.

The only improvement suggestion we have is to improve the food a bit. It's nice home-cooked meals, but not up to par with other lodges of same price.

The accommodation and game drives offered by Basecamp are world class. Staying here allowed us to be close to the action of the Mara while still getting good nights rest. The staff know your name, are very welcoming, and go the extra mile to make the stay memorable and safe. It is a fair bit out of the way (especially by matatu), but this is as much a pro as a con. Definitely recommend staying here. Will be coming back.

Excellent accommodation and wonderful staff. The fact it is a luxury eco lodge is also worth mentioning, as it is the only hotel of its kind in Masai Mara. As for the game reserve, you are sure to see all sorts of animals. You won't be disappointed!

This is an ecolodge tented camp. Our previous three nights were spent in typical lodges but this had the WOW! factor. Established and operated by Masai who are forsaking traditional pastoral roles after receiving education, 95% of staff are Masai. This story is one you can learn more about during your stay.
Accommodation consisted of a large tent with bath and shower annex. Power is solar in keeping with the ethos of the place. Charging electricals is done at the office. It was comfortable and the beds were fantastic.

The food was five star quality unlike buffets provided by other lodges. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Movement at night is by escort with a Masai warrior with spear just in case of wild beasts.

There is an ambience in the environment which caused us to cut short day two of our safari and just sit on the porch with a glass of wine, a good book and the river in the background. The place is immaculately spotless and toilet ting facilities are exceptional for an ecolodge. You would not know it is a long drop as there is no odour.

Room Tip: All tents have river views
