Description: Onza is the place where a young, vibrant Tel Aviv atmosphere combines with the magic and mystery of the Jaffa flea market to make a delicious restaurant “cocktail”. Here, a sophisticated and innovative bar is blended with a meticulous menu created by chefs Arik Darhani and Muli Magriso that gives Ottoman and Turkish cuisine a contemporary twist, using the finest ingredients and advanced cooking techniques. The outdoor scenery is composed of Jaffa alleyways that are filled with fascinating sights, scents, and ancient secrets on every corner, and this ideally complements the restaurant’s interior. Designed by architect Dan Troim, the restaurant features a large bar, tables that extend out into the street and a private room for events. Soft contemporary music accompanies you throughout your meal, linking the ambiance with perfect Tel Aviv-Jaffa entertainment. From the first bite to the last drop, you’ll understand why Onza’s motto is “Food & Vibe”.

Unbelievable. Onza is world class.

Turkish food which is as tasty as it is exotic.

Our waitress, Hallel, from Georgia (not the US version) makes sure we have plenty to eat and drink, including sharing a shot with us after dinner.

Warm eggplant with yogurt, butter & pistachios (the creamiest baba ghanoush imaginable) with Simit bread for dipping. Follow that with an indescribable egg dish, an emulsion with vegetables, pieces of bread and spices. Hallel tells us how it is made but the noise in the restaurant, I have no idea what she said. She gave us spoons so we could make sure to eat every drop, that much I understood.

Then send in some "Lahmi Bajn” which was chopped beef, onions, tahini, tomato, in long Turkish yeast dough bread shell called pide.

Dessert? I have no idea but we loved it. We were then told we didn’t eat it right. We ate it from top down and experienced the layers of sweet cream and other oddities on at a time. Hallel said you have to start at the bottom and experience all of the flavors at once. I assume she is right.

Had to go back to try it again, so we make a reservation for the next night. We ordered a whole bunch of different things including a mushroom/polenta dish and the other egg dish.

GREAT!

Many reasons to return to Israel, and this is one of them

We last visited this restaurant in June so were happy to return. It’s part of the same group that owns Mashya and Kitchen Market.
What can I say ? Great location, some staff more helpful than others, first courses are , in my view, more interesting than the main courses. My wife detests coriander so menu has its limitations. We nevertheless enjoyed our evening.
