The staff is very polite, but being a relatively new church, i don't know if it worth the ticket to enter.

The Church is located near the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. To enter into the Church visitors must be dressed decently. Female visitors must use a scarf. The Church is not very large so often overlooked when visits to this area. This church is the Church of ortodox and can not enter for everyone. In this church there are many paintings of Jesus Christ which is mounted on the wall. The Church is not very large but quite meaningless if you visit.

From the outside, it appears to be a simple plain building. Something barely noticeable where it not for the fact that it's practically next to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. To forgo a visit to this church really would be like judging a book by it's cover. It's simple exterior belies an interior decorated with wonderful religious art.

There's also a bit of amazing archaeology in the church. Inside the remains of a gate thought to be the gate that Jesus passed through to leave the city to the crucifixion. It's also thought that this church was once connected to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and there's a reconstruction of a set of steps to show how the two churches where once connected. Perhaps there's hope yet for all the Christian churches to become whole again.

One of the interesting churches to visit the Christian Quarter is the Church of Alexander Nevsky (Alexander Hospice), located just across from the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. The church is open for visitation from 9am to 6pm daily and entry fee is NIS 5 per adult.

This is a Russian Orthodox Church constructed in 1859 which can be conveniently visited in 15-20 minutes time for those with busy sightseeing schedules.

We enjoyed the first room near the entrance where you can see portraits of Russian royal family members as well as other items of interest. There is a second church room which possesses an attractive iconostasis, wall paintings and cased items on display.

Perhaps of greater interest at the Alexander Nevsky Church site are the excavations which you can view. These include the discovered section of a Herodian city wall dating back to the second century as well as a section of a colonnade street and arch structure.

The city wall structure in particular is significant as it gives credibility to belief that the nearby Church of the Holy Sepulchre was built upon the grounds that were originally outside the city wall where it also believed Jesus was crucified.

In the end, we enjoyed the archaeological aspects most when thinking about our visit to the Alexander Nevsky Church. However, this was a neat place on both accounts and a place worth visiting if you are making church visits in the Christian Quarter.

I visited this Russian Orthodox church last year and had to come back this year.
Inside the church there the remains of one of the gates from the Roman era, the time of Jesus. The staff, Nuns are very friendly and helpful.
