Drove into Selcuk from Dalaman and after a long 3 hour drive it was literally the first hotel we came across, so we thought we'd give it a try. The hotel manager Abidan was very very welcoming and after showing us the room, put absolutely no pressure on us to stay. I can only describe the hotel as perhaps something out of the film Casablanca. It's very oldy worldy and we found it very clean. There is also a pool but as I guess the weather isn't quite warm enough, it wasn't filled. We only stayed for one night as we were planning to visit Ephasus the next day. However as St John's Basilica is right behind the hotel, we also went to it. Breakfast the next morning was typical Turkish (us brits would say a salad) and it was most welcome and nice. If you stay here don't expect 5 star, but you can expect a nice clean room and a very friendly welcome.

Dear our Guest,
Thank you for your nice review of our hotel. Being matched with Casablanca was the first ever comment that made us happy indeed. We have been delightful to see you were welcomed very well and had a memorable stay with us. We look forward to welcoming you next time for a longer stay that you can explore and benefit what our hotel has to offer.
Best regards,
Hakan Ozdemirci

Was pleasantly surprised with this hotel selection. Rooms were large and provided a feel for old school charm. If your looking for American luxury look elsewhere but if you want to feel like a traveler set back in time this is a great choice. Dinner was wonderful and very satisfying and had our family entertained.

We booked a standard double room which was a good size. As all beds seem to be in Turkey, it was firm but you could also feel the springs. The hotel has off-street parking and is walking distance to some ancient sites and the town centre with good choice of cafes, supermarkets, etc. You will need transport to Ephesus. The hotel has a lovely internal garden (complete with turtles) and pool/bar area. It is on the main road but our room was quiet except the first night when some other guests were chatting around the pool area late into the night. Wi-fi didn't work very well in the room but was ok in the garden. The room was very tired and in desperate need of general maintenance especially the bathroom. The buffet breakfast had traditional turkish selection including fresh fruit and cereal but was average. We left a night earlier than booked even though we knew we couldn't receive a refund. Disappointing given the previous reviews when booking.

Stayed here for two nights as part of a tour package. The good points are that it is very close (5 min walk) to the town center; the garden and pool area seemed well kept and peaceful; and the breakfast was fairly decent. However the low points are that the room I stayed in was in desperate need of remodeling, especially the bathroom. The toilet seat cover fell off as soon as I touched it, the shower was so small and without a door so if you dropped anything, good luck trying to pick it up. I'm 5'4" and I could barely see my face in the bathroom mirror or reach the towel rack which was positioned for someone at least 6" tall.

Not sure if it was just our room but it's also very noisy. You can hear your upstairs and next door neighbors and everyone who tries to fiddle with the room keys in the hallway. Furniture and everything else in the room could use an upgrade to something in this century.

We stayed 2 nights at Hotel Kalehan and felt we were back in the 1980s. It is obvious that very little has been done to this hotel since it opened. Woodwork appears untouched and the bathroom was too tiny to move in and the shower recess hopelessly inadequate. Twin beds were provided in a requested double room. The gardens and pool looked attractive but don't expect to be able to relax there with a glass of wine bought outside the hotel - you will be ordered back to your room! Unbelievable given other hotels in Turkey have been happy with this. Dinner was passable. We were so disappointed with this accommodation that we chose not to use their facilities for dinner or breakfast the next day.

Room Tip: Go elsewhere
