I am always iffy about taking tours when visiting other countries because I never want to feel obliged to go with a group, or visit a site I have no interest in. That, and I always want the liberty to change my mind and go to other venues instead - especially, if the tourist areas have long queues and wild waiting times. That is probably the reason why I enjoyed this walking tour so much!
It was so useful to get this guided tour through Istanbul, as walking with local people gives you a better understanding of this city that is so rich in culture and history. We got the private walking tour with Furkan and made our way from site to site to site without noticing the lines and the crowds. He wowed us with his knowledge and all his stories about Istanbul, and made us laugh as he injected antics and modern references to history.
We appreciated the fact as well that he took us off the beaten path, not necessarily sticking to a patterned schedule, and also because of his flexibility based on what perked our interest.
Furkan took us to a good local place to eat, and made us try local brewery - which we enjoyed thoroughly. A big plus is that he takes really good pictures as well, so we had a lot to show most especially from this particular day. Definitely recommending to others to try this tour!
