Nice high ceilings, good business hotel

Review of Hotel Mercury
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 24 Feb 2015
We spent three nights here on business. The hotel arranged for a driver to pick us up at the airport, and they can also arrange registration with local police if you stay longer than three days.
As others have written, the rooms are indeed spacious and warm. The bed is hard but as you would expect in the region. There is a heater in the room, as well as facilities to make tea and coffee (you have to bring your own), a mini-fridge, etc. There is no restaurant but you can order from local restaurants, and they will deliver to the hotel. The internet connection is generally quite good.
The main drawback for this hotel are the in-room bathrooms which have absolutely NO VENTILATION. This means that you can shower in the evening and still have a steamy mirror in the morning if you keep the bathroom door shut. No ventilation ever = bad smell forever. I'm a bit sensitive to smells so maybe this wouldn't bother everyone.
The breakfast is basic but ok.
The neighbourhood roosters start early here, so bring earplugs!

The staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. Our room was warm and comfortable. The breakfast buffet was good. The staff didn't speak a lot of English but it was enough for our stay. Unfortunately they didn't tell is when we checked in in the morning that we would be charged for the previous night until we came to pay the bill.

So I stayed in a big room with a friend. We each had a room and one common living room. The staff were great. They pulled some major strings to get my card to work to pay for the room. The had Internet. Kind of spotty though. Food was everything I wanted. Good job guys!!!

The building, the garden, the setting and the location of this hotel in Dushanbe is absolutely great. When you arrive you think you made the best choice of hotels in Dushanbe.

Unfortunately a large, fairly complete (with amenities and facilities) room and a beautiful facade is not all that makes a hotel 'great and recommendable'. Service is not that impressive, I think we counted maybe one smile of a staff member in the three days we were here.
During our email contact with the hotel (to make the reservation) we received replies like 'ok' - no more than that. Breakfast is very limited and served in a room/hall with no soul or atmosphere what so ever. The hotel has a wonderful outside-area where so much more could be done to make it attractive to actually sit outside and enjoy the garden. The staff is willing to help but a real (warm) personal touch is missing.

I found the Mercury Hotel, at 80 USD per night to be surprisingly good. The bed was comfortable, the breakfast excellent, and the location excellent.

Iskander the manager was polite and helpful though I was told I could have a room for an extra night and then this wasn't possible which meant I had to find another hotel.

Despite this I'd definitely recommend this hotel.

Location is good. Rooms are big (Semi-Lux). Bathroom is very old and smells terrible. No lobby so it was impossible to have quick small meetings in the hotel. Breakfast is average. No restaurant or bar, so if you are hungry in the evening or want to have a cup of coffee you should go somewhere outside.
