Friendly staff but the B&B needs better management!

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 22 Aug 2017via mobile
We arrived into Dushanbe at 3.30 AM, tired from Dubai. Same morning, Ali the receptionist, a smooth talker convinced us into taking a hired car and driver to see various sites. Azmat and his ancient Volkswagen arrived 45 mins after arranged time. We learnt to our cost, that Ali knew nothing about his own city; same as Azamat. We wanted Ismail Somoni monument and were taken to the Ismaili Centre. We wanted Writers Building and landed up at Friendship Park. We wanted Museum of ethnography / antiquities and landed up at a museum near the palace. Fed up, we went back to hotel.
We had booked two junior suites. One double, one single. The single was more like a large room rather than a suite. We had asked for rooms next to each other; we got one on the 4th and 6th floors.
Our bathroom shower leaked so that the whole bathroom was flooded! Yes, they repaired it but where is the maintenance? The bedroom AC leaks water non stop and they have a small wastepaper basket to collect: all night it drips. The curtains dont move so you get light into the bedroom very early. On the third day, there was no room cleaning despite reminder at 4.30 pm.
the breakfast is excellent. The staff apologetic and friendly. the porch area is great. Sit in the open area in large divans or chairs and enjoy a beer or just relax. Its great.

I would stay at the new Atlas, if there was a next time, as the price differential is marginal.

I used to stay at the Atlas new hotel but after discovering the B&B it is my go to hotel from now on. The courtyard offers peace and serenity. Enjoy the greenery and the bird song. Staff are very informal and friendly. A pleasure to stay here.

Room tip: All the rooms are adequate size and have comfortable beds

The room is spacious and comfortable, the breakfast is nice with many fruits and choice, staff are friendly. You can get a drive in town and call them to come and fetch you for your way back. The garden is nice and calm.

We were planning to stay at Atlas B&B for 1 night but ended up stayed for 3, simply becoz they offered a great service with everything we need, big and clean room with aircon, hot shower, speedy wifi, good breakfast ( continental style also served fried egg), the BEST things were: the room is included the laundry service and airport transfer! For the price usd70, I think that's absolutely value for money!

*please Don't try the take away from the Turkish restaurant... My husband felt terribly sick the next day ...

First the good - the power only went out once in three days, plenty of hot water, great breakfast, quiet neighborhood, large room, decent wifi. Now the not so good - worn out carpets, furniture, one bed with springs so nasty we couldn't sleep in it, inadequate electrical outlets. It definitely has a worn out, hodge pudge former Soviet Union feel. It does have a lovely courtyard with plants and flowers which we could enjoy when the air wasn't fouled by smokers. I had hoped for more for the $90 US price. I'd try to find something better if I return.

Dushanbe is not an easy city to navigate, and it is even tougher you are a first timer and do not speak the local language. And forget about any help from the tourist offices, which is non existent, nor the Police, who are more interested in giving traffic tickets to motorists, than to care anything for you.
ATLAS offer free airport round-trip transfer, and for certain package, free transfer to the city centre. The receptionists and Manager speak good English and does gave reliable tips and advice. The place is secure and the room is well furnished, Yes, it is a bit expensive for Tijikistan, there are many B&B offer much lower rate. but over all, I had a good stay and the service deserve the high price.
The included breakfast is very very good.
On the Con side, its a bit far from the city, though is near the airport. Public transport like shared taxis are challenging if you do not speak Tijik. The hotel is off the mainroad, an the side street is poorly lit, though its safe but it does give you a sense of anxiety.

Room tip: Room on lower floor, high floor rooms involve climbing flight of steep stairs.
