Good enough for business

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 18 May 2016via mobile
Let me start by saying that to get the full Trip Adviser picture you also need to look at the reviews of this hotel under the western spelling of it's name Tadjikistan Hotel. The hotel is very well positioned for government buildings and a short walk away from the presidential palace, the new museum and the huge flagpole with its equally huge national flag situated in the accompanying gardens. The hotel itself is a soviet era Intourist hotel which has been revamped quite succesfully but still has a difficult to place 'soviet feel' about it. The reception staff are very helpful but by the reception there is situated a table with young men in suits who in 'the good old days' would have been KGB type officers assigned to 'look after' their foreign guests. Today they are harmless young guys who are genuinly looking for ways to help. The rooms vary (I would say) SIGNIFICANTLY!! I looked into double accommodation rooms which were spacious and airy. BUT my single room (622) was very small (though adequate just for sleeping) BUT the bathroom was tiny, and as in all soviet style hotels in desperate need of a couple of hours of a handyman's work to replace washers, screw things together and fix leaks. Be careful with the shower curtain although it is easy to put back up again. The single bed in the room had a very hard mattress ( which you either like or detest) and the mini bar (as in all soviet style hotels) is empty and really serves as a fridge for whatever foodstuffs you bring in to the room. The coffee making facilities are just that - facilities. No actual coffee or tea bags and you would need to fill the mini kettle from the 1/2 litre bottles of mineral water supplied FOC. No wardrobe to hang your clothes so you literally live out of your suitcase (which as a business traveller is OK as I travel light), and most importantly despite this room being at the end of the long corridor the free WIFI worked well - in the room - but nowhere else in the hotel. The breakfast bufet was basic but sufficient. The numerous staff here were in stark contrast to the speed of service. Didn't get a chance to try the in house chinese restaurant. For all of the above you do pay a lot in comparison to hotels in the west. Cannot compare to other hotels in Dushanbe as this was my first visit.

I enjoyed my time at this hotel, the food was good, I found the staff friendly and helpful, the room was nice, my single rom was much smaller than the twin rooms but still very nice. The location is fantastic, my only critisim would be that the carpets in the rooms could do with a good clean and shampoo, but the supply slippers which I wore while in the room so it was fine, I would stay here again, Tajikistan has proven to be a lovely surprise.

Tojikiston Hotel is located in center of Doushanbe. The hotel has friendly and helpful staff willing to assist guests at any time. Rooms are large and clean. Facilities are good. Breakfast and food quality is fine and well served. It is a good value for money in Doushanbe.

Some of the comments above are true but this is reality of Dushanbe. The management and staff are doing their best to make you happy and additionally rooms are not small. I do not mention its great location.

Would not book again nor recomend to anyone!
Breackfast is also on a 3* level...

    My experience with Hotel Tojikiston:

-Unfriendly staff, who don't speak proper English. You have to ask one thing at least 2- 3 times before they answer your question and even then, not correctly!

    - The interior design is a caricature of Tajik culture. Spacious lobby and restaurant, but dark and not at all cozy.

    - Conference facilities: very dark rooms - no windows and the lighting is quite dim. The equipment is questionable too.

    - Little diversity in food/menu: only Tajik cuisines. Misinformation: I was told there would be buffet for lunch for US$20, but was charged US$30 apparently because of my menu choice. There is also a Chinese restaurant if you like Chinese food, but don't expect a good one.

    - Spa: the price is far too high for what you actually get.
