We did a one night cruise on Halong Bay. The ship is the nicest looking ship on Halong Bay. For anyone who has travelled on a newer river cruise, the layout and stateroom are typical. On this particular cruise four of us (my wife and another couple) were the only four English speaking people. The other 50+ people were French Canadian. As a result we had a person from the boat accompany us on shore excursions. The disappointment was in the food. We had four meals with the Golden Cruise, three on the ship and a final lunch in there on shore restaurant. The lunches were fixed menu (typical for Vietnam tours). The dinner was also fixed menu and rather poor. Breakfast was buffet with limited selection. To be fair I don't know if the other boats have the same format but Golden Cruises advertises as the best on the bay, if it is I would recommend taking a hotel on land and doing a day trip on the bay
