Popped in after visiting Wat Ket. And what a lovely welcome!
Chatted to an older chap who told us about the project, his son is one of the resident artists. They invite you to have a go at the loom, and have numerous crafted items for sale.
Bought a few gifts for folk back home - a few place mats, coasters, and fun little woven elephant bags (all easy to fit into a rucksack!). My daughter (12) bought an elephant t-shirt that she loves. Price was cheaper than buying in the touristy night bazaar, the products are unique and lovely, and you get a clear sense that your money is going to a great cause. What could beat that?!

We were able to walk to the Healing Family Foundation from our hotel and managed to find it although it is tucked around a corner off the main tourist path. If you manage to get here (as I do hope you will), you will be greeted by the founder who will happily show you around the "House of Joy", a two room building full of those with disabilities weaving, smiling, chatting and laughing.
-------------------------------------------
WHAT TO TAKE:
- Baht to buy from and support this charity
- A water bottle (it is often quite warm in the building)
-------------------------------------------
Every scrap of material weaved by the "artists", as they are referred to, are used in products that are then sold. This ranges from scarves, tee-shirts and bags to keychains and cards. Each are to a high quality and are well worth the extra baht. The kind people of the foundation even allow you to take part in some weaving and it is a true marvel to be immersed in the small world for even a small while.

We visited this place as part of the global perspectives trip and the issue was providing livelihood for the disenfranchised members of society, especially those with mental disabilities. The folks at the center welcomed us very nicely and they gave us an overview of what the place is and how they are striving to provide livelihood to these young people with disabilities, where they can take pride in their work. The residents gave us a show and taught our students how to weave. It was an eye opening experience for me.

It's a good place to heal you soul and sorrow. All artists kept laughing while weaving, I am still smiling when I think of it. Khun Pradit ( the founder) and the artists are amazing, it is indeed the house of joy!
