Owner description: Explore Nepali culture through our exclusive collection of travel experiences - carve a wooden mask, cook momos or learn pottery, the backstreets offer the richest interaction with the culture and people of a place. Immerse yourself in the de facto Nepali experience where the local backdrop retains its integrity and originality and discover a side of the city you never knew, available only through the forgotten backstreets. Backstreet Academy works with many competent yet struggling craftsmen with whom we structure a course together to teach the world about their traditional craft. Be it at their home or their workshops, we offer our guests access to a 'behind the scenes' experience that is often overlooked. This is the real local, the real Nepal, the real experience. And as you discover the backstreets, we will pair you with a facilitator who will help you translate and make sure you have a great time while making an impact. Courses available include: - Mask Carving - Stone carving - Momo Cooking Class - Dal Bhat Cooking Class - Pottery - Kite Making - Jute Bag Making - Sari Wearing - Paper Lantern Making Our other cities include: Phnom Penh | Siem Reap | Pokhara | Luang Prabang | Vientiane

In Just over two hours my guide aarzoo showed me the best hidden but fingerlicking good tasting snacks of Kathmandu. Very recommendable tour if you like to experience local food!

Did the food tour in January, I can recommend it. We had a nice young girl as a guide and all together we were 5 people doing the tour. One of us has a gluten allergy and they really cared about it and had alternatives ready. The food was great and I would have missed some of it without the tour. I have eaten a lot of Momos in Kathmandu and the Momos at this tour were the best.

What a fantastic way to spend an afternoon. Learning and doing Thangka art under the supervision of a friendly and skilled artist. Step by step guidance in a professional and patient manner. My wife and I are complete novices to art but the end result was outstanding. We are taking home our masterpieces. Photos show the work in progress. Highly recommended for all ages from 7 years and up.

We were told about this tour by some people we met whilst trekking and decided to give it a go when we got back to Kathmandu.
It was a great decision!
The tour takes you to places in the city that you probably wouldn't go to as a tourist, and our guide Bimal was really interesting, he had loads to share about the history, the culture and himself which made the tour very enjoyable. We tried lots of local foods, getting a real feel for what the locals eat - my gosh they were tasty!!
We would highly recommend the tour - the foods are too good to miss out on and the tour gives you a different perspective on Kathmandu - Thanks!
