Hotel Levys

Review of Hotel Levy's
3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 16 Apr 2015
I spent almost 2 months in this hotel. By the road so it noisy sometimes (day and night), but sometimes I need the noisiness it reminded me that I was not alone there. I remember I enjoyed my long wake up sleep every Sunday and just relaxed. They clean the room every day. Again, with conditions Bangui is facing there nothing I want to really comment. Only I found missing food several times, and found my sponge got wet though I did not use it in the morning. I hope they didn't use it to clean the shower room. But for safe sake, I put all in my luggage and locked except my sleeping dress hanging there. Lots of flies in the restaurant. Sometimes I felt they exhanged the bed sheet, I wonder how my bed sheet got smelling smoke.. :( Oh yes they have mosquito net in the room. And TV only shows french speaking..oh well look at the bright sight maybe I could learn very little bit of..où êtes-vous maintenant?? I loved my room there though, at the 2nd floor I forgot the number. Just below the restaurant I think and with view to the road. The restaurant can serve good grilled fish and it took forever..

I stayed here for 6 days.I chose the hotel because of the price ( 22,500 CFA franc/night) and the location (just few minutes away from the UN HQ. For those who are coming for the first time and will be staying a bit longer than a month, finding a decent and safe accommodation around Bangui is a tough job. Not much better options are available unless you are willing to pay up to $170 a night. Levy's Hotel is one of the cheap but acceptable places available for temporary accommodation. Although you have to lower your expectations in order not to get stressed (pretty much applicable to almost everything here in CAR). The hotel itself needs major refurbishment. Rooms are very basic. I have to change room twice because it's either lights are not working both in the toilet or the rooms itself, AC is crazy and noisy in the night (they will turn on ACs around 11:30pm to 12 midnight because of power shortage) or window screens are torn so mosquitos are everywhere in the room. The good thing about it was the staff are friendly (they don't usually speak English but the will try their best to make you comfortable.)

Room tip: Choose the lower floors, you'll get at least water in your showerheads. you'll find buckets in upper floors which indicates that you have to fetch water from your faucet and fill your bucket. Choose also rooms near the stairs. You'll get a better wi-fi connections there.

I spent one week there. This a good and cheap hotel, well located. The weak point is the condition of the rooms. I stayed in the building located at the backyard, and I do think the rooms would deserve to be a bit refurbished, starting with the painting. But, this is still acceptable. There is also a really good terrace/restaurant. I had a good time there.

Room tip: There is 2 buildings. Choose the front one. The rooms are nicer.

This is actually a very good hotel, you have to remember how much you pay and the location.
You pay far less than other places and you have free wifi in the lobby 24/7 (expect for the power cuts but then the generator kicks in) so they are usualy just couple of minutes. You get a secure and very friendly place and usualy you are just there to sleep. And make sure to have a chat with the Owner mr Levy, a very friendly man. I did not expect a 5 star place so everything is relative and you have to put that in perspective, but if i come back to Bangui i will come back and stay here. The staff are friendly and the room very basic but you save alot money.

Room tip: just go for the basic room, the better rooms have warm water but this place is so hot so you wont ever use the hot water because you want to cool down.

The rooms are too basic and lights and amenities do not always work. However, the staff is friendly and the location is convenient enough. You can walk downtown and yet not right at the heart which is too crowded with police and soldiers. Moderate value given the high cost of everything in Bangui.

Yes, this hotel is not the cleanest and they suffer from power outings. But this is Bangui, spend double the money and you might get marginal improvement. So for Bangui this is a mid-range place where you can certainly stay without too much misery. Also stayed in the Hotel du Centre but really the improvement is marginal for the extra money. Rooms on the first floor are supposedly better, the rooms have hordes of mosquitos so make sure to get a complimentary bednet for your room. Figure out when water and electricity is functioning as Bangui has both in short supply, that way adjust your schedule (showers, etc). The place has a pleasant enough porch/restaurant for a snack or beer. On the plus side: very conveniently situated near main roads and next to the European Commission HQ so presumably safe..
