Went to this place last night for dinner (1 May 2018) with a discount gift card given to my ex-wife. Had the almost-16-year-old kid and grandkids (6, 7 and 9) along to check out their kid-friendliness. We were greeted by a friendly hostess who sat us quickly at a table already set up for big family.
Menu was a bit confusing, hard to figure out what this place does best. Between the Mexican, Cuban and Argentinian dishes, it was though the menu was created by a mom, a dad, and a son-in-law. My ex wanted a house red to drink, but she hesitated. They brought out a taste. It was a bit astringent, so we went and split a bottle of Tempranillo, which was a much better wine at $30.
For starters, my daughter tore into the Caprese Salad, which was enough to fill two. Gorgeous thick slices of fresh mozzarella with equally thick tomatoes that tasted like...tomatoes instead of cardboard...along with a thick balsamic dressing/glaze. Delicious! I had the Argentine blood sausage, that were HUGE compared to the usual ones I've found. Grilled, served with a side of chimichurri, they were rich and filling, full of spice.
For our entrees, the kids ordered the chicken "fingers" which were more like chicken "hands." They were gigantic compared to the normal "fingers." They were carved from breasts, seasoned and deep fried. Juicy and crispy, served with expertly fried french fries--ideally crispy outside and tender inside. Also, the hamburger looked like a half-pound patty grilled, served with lettuce and tomato. It disappeared in like, 30 seconds. The kids menu was cleverly designed with figures to color, provided with crayons.
My daughter had the beef fajitas, served with all of the accouterments. The beef was perfectly grilled with bell peppers and onions, seasoned with some cumin-based spice mix that rolled up into gorgeous wraps. The zarzuela was served with a piece of salmon, a bunch of squid, shrimp, tomatoes, onions, red and green bell peppers all sauteed together to create a sublime melange of flavors. I had the "Tres Carnes," "Three Meats" which had a portion of flap steak, skirt steak and beef short ribs. Not known for their "thickness," these cuts only need a moment over the fire. Two seconds and they're overcooked. These were....a bit close, sort of between medium-rare (my choice) and medium. Still they were tender, properly charred and simply seasoned with salt and pepper, chimichurri served alongside.
The sides I ordered was the broccoli, brought out lightly steamed and bright green, a full head! Also available was an outstanding organic brown rice that was excellent, with a great chewy texture and a nutty flavor. Although I didn't ask for it, they brought a small bowl of black bean soup. According to the waiter, it's customarily to be served them together. Glorious soup, full of onion, garlic, bell pepper flavor that pairs with the soft beans. At the end of the meal EVERYONE left part of their meal on their plates, their portions were so immense! No room for dessert! We felt that this place was a great deal, even without their $25.00 discount.
