This is a solid hotel available for a reasonable price in a great location. It is within walking distance of all attractions at or around the Mall, including the Smithsonian, the Capitol and the Monument. It is also close to the L'Enfant Plaza Metro station. The only drawback is that the hotel is not close to much dining or nightlife. But it is easy enough to take the Metro to DuPont Circle or catch a cab to Georgetown. The rooms are clean and comfortable.

We recently spent four nights at this hotel and would NEVER stay here again. When we first arrived I noticed the concierge texting on their phone. The lobby was clean and the bell staff was very nice. The front desk staff never smiled or welcomed us to the hotel.
We attempted an early check in and were told no, which I can understand as the hotel was busy. They didn’t offer to call us when our rooms were ready just that the bell staff could check our luggage.
The room was clean but the refrigerator was not turned on and when we returned to our room and placed left over prime rib in it, it subsequently spoiled since there was no notice to turn the fridge on. I have never stayed at a hotel that this was the case.
Bring earplugs for the toilet, because when you flush it, it sounds like the entire tank lid is going to launch into the air.
One of the people I was traveling with left his new IPhone X in the men’s room, while we were having dinner in the hotel. From the time he left the restroom until the time he realized it was missing was less than 5 minutes. He knew this based on the fact he had been on the phone with a friend just prior to entering and his watch alerted him that he was to far away from his phone. He went to “security”, which was an elderly woman that could not care less that his phone was missing.
This attitude continued over the course of the next 2 days as he tried to get someone to view the cameras since we knew there was a limited number of people that could have entered. We located six cameras in that hallway. They reused to view it until the day we were leaving.
The excuse by the general manager was that an employee had a family member pass away and they had a funeral to attend. I feel bad for the family as we were there because we had six families to had family members die and were there to honor them, during National Police Week.
Of course when they finally claimed to watch the video they couldn’t see anything in the hallway.
The staff in the restaurant never smiled either and it was understaffed for the number of people in the hotel. There was only one waitress for each section of the restaurant. The female bartender was only worried about the people at the bar and was not servicing the waitresses.
Please stay away from this hotel and if you are considering it for NPW 2019 don’t give them your hard earned money.

Valued guest,

Thank you for choosing to stay with us at the Holiday Inn Capitol. I am very disappointed to hear that we were unable to provide you a five star experience during your recent visit to Washington. I will pass along your comments about the food and beverage outlets on site to the manager on property. We appreciate your feedback and we hope that you give us another try again in the future, to prove this is not indicative of a normal experience at our property.

Stayed at the hotel for 2 nights for sightseeing with our grandson. Great location, 2 blocks from Air and Space Museum, short walk to the US Capital. Room was clean, well lit, plenty of outlets for charging electronics , refrigerator and coffeemaker, air worked well. Noise from nearby train was not a problem, but adjoining room door not well sealed and allowed noise from room next door well into the night. On site restaurant used for 2 dinners, good meals and convenient as weather turned stormy in the evening.

Room Tip: Court room facing

I stayed this past weekend with my husband and two kids. This hotel is in very easy walking distance to the National Mall even with young kids. We were able to walk to all of the museums on the mall. The proximity of this hotel to the attractions we wanted to see helped us to cram a lot of sightseeing into a weekend trip. There is plentiful underground parking at a very reasonable rate. We had dinner at the hotel both nights, once in the Capitol Bistro and room service the next night. The food and service was great both times. We also had brunch at the Capitol Bistro on Sunday and that was good too. We visited the Starbucks as well. This hotel is super convenient and has everything you need. I just wish the pool was open because my kids would have loved to swim after a long day of touring. All of the staff was friendly and helpful. Will stay here again on our next visit.

Every person who worked there was so friendly. My family of 4 (2 adults, 20, 14) stayed for 1 night. Arrived early and they said a room was available right then but by the railroad tracks. I saw reviews here where people said it was too loud with the train. A freight train runs through my town so I said no problem. I think we only heard the whistle 4 times total. It didn’t bother us at all. Room was clean. A nice touch was each bed had 4 pillows 2 firm 2 soft. The pillowcases were labeled. It was nice to have a choice. Our only problem was the AC didn’t cool the room. There is no way to point the air toward the bed. It was 90 degrees out in May. The hotel hallway was freezing but the room would get warm set at 65. Unfortunately the air is blocked by the desk. That corner gets cold so the air shuts off before cooling the room good. Under the desk was a rollout table that we moved by the beds, pulled over the chair, and played cards. Walls were thin. Could hear people in next room talking and laughing through the connecting door. . Parking right under the hotel for $40 was convenient we parked from 10am Sat and could stay parked til 5 pm Sun and go in and out during the day. There is not a lot of food in this area, so pack some snacks. There was a fridge in the room. The carpet in the hallway made us feel dizzy. Pictures hanging in the rooms were all DC themed...a nice touch.
