I love the Canopy by Hilton concept! The customer service was above and beyond what I’ve received at luxury hotels: consistent and across the board wonderful service. The rooms were really well though-out. The decor was modern and hip but functional down to the smallest detail such as hooks in the right place. The organic Greek bath products, Nespresso machine, deep fridge perfect for leftovers, water bottle, everything was perfect. The breakfast was amazing! Fresh and high-quality ingredients. The clean smoothies were my fave. Oh, and the local fruit preserves. I loved the well-curated items for sale at the check-in area. I really appreciated the genuine integration of local items throughout the hotel. I wa so impressed that I searched the Canopy by Hilton website for other properties. I am now a loyal Canopy gal!

Canopy by Hilton at the Wharf is an excellent new hotel with many modern twists. It has a great view (ask for a higher floor) of a harbor off the Potomac. The rooms, hallways and even the elevators have a modern, fresh look. The room was very quiet.
They have a very good breakfast which is far better than normal free breakfast fare. Many upscale food choices such as breakfast pizza, quiche and yogurts. My only complaint would be they should have bacon and scrambled eggs daily instead of just on weekends, but that's just me.
The Wharf is great with many new shops and restaurants... mostly seafood. Kirwins was our favorite. Great place to walk around and enjoy the scenery. The old, open air fresh seafood sellers at the end of the wharf are cool and very popular.
You are within walking distance to the National Mall at about 8/10s of a mile (about 25 minutes) but save your legs and take the outstanding free Wharf shuttle bus. There are 2 in operation and there is usually one available every 5-10 minutes. You will need your legs walking around the National Mall!!!

Room Tip: Top floor with a view of the Harbor (floor 9)

Right in the center of the Wharf development, this Scandinavian style fresh and welcoming hotel is a delight. Walk along the waterfront at night, and there is plenty of activity or relax in the calm of a clean, very comfortable room. Mall is an easy walk as well.

Rating: 4-4.5 out of 5 stars. My family of 5 adults and a 13 y/o stayed here while visiting DC during Spring Break.

Positives: Location, location, location...It’s a very modern hotel on the water (wharf) with beautiful views, numerous adjacent restaurants, local night life, and well stocked and comfortable rooms. It’s also walking distance from the “Monument’s Walk”, the Mall (if you wish), about 3-4 blocks away from the subway public trains (the better way to travel to the Mall), and walking distance from local fresh seafood markets/restaurants. It’s about a 10-15 min cab ride from Ronald Regan International Airport; or you can easily take the subway train to the airport if you’re traveling light. My family found the complimentary breakfast fair pretty good with artisan-style foods, but there was even food for the picky traditional breakfast eater (my 13 y/o ;-).

Negative: I only have 1 negative comment about this hotel, and it’s regarding the elevator situation. My family was completely annoyed by their futuristic elevators where you have to take an elevator from the entrance level to the lobby level, get off, tap your keycard on an electronic display, wait for the computer to tell you which elevator # to take, and then either get back on the elevator you just got off or hustle-it to an elevator at the other end of the line. The elevator will then only take you to the floor of your keycard room; which can be a problem to visit others in the same hotel (like my parents who were initially assigned to a different floor from us). I know this is probably for safety reasons, and partly to have the appearance of a more technology advanced hotel; but I just found this purely annoying, especially when returning in the late evening after walking the Mall all day. My suggestion to alleviate some of the inconvenience is to allow people who have already checked-in, have a key card and are returning to the hotel, touch their key card to an electronic display at the Entry level and then have that elevator take them directly to their room level (without the whole elevator switch-a-roo and hassle on the Lobby level). Part of me feels like this elevator situation it’s worth an entire point deduction, but it was such an awesome hotel in so many other ways that I think more like 0.5 off is fair.

This property was amazing! My friends and I were in DC just for one night for a visit to the National Museum of African American History & Culture. Dinner options abound. The property had breakfast, an evening tasting at the bar, and a view to die for.

Room Tip: One night is not enough. They even have bicycles that you can use. Suites #731 & 732 have the best views.
