At midnight on our first night in D.C., our daughter got very sick. Our host Jacob immediately responded to my text, "Are you awake? Is there a pharmacy nearby?" He knew we didn’t have a car. Voluntarily, he went to 2 pharmacies trying to help. We realized quickly that our daughter needed to go to the hospital. Faster than getting an ambulance, Jacob took us to the hospital. He stayed to support us.
In any other home or hotel, we would’ve been alone. It was truly a blessing to meet Jacob! During our stay, we know he helped two groups of travelers who were affected by the hurricane. We stayed in two upstairs bedrooms and later in the basement room. Everything was clean and well kept. Most importantly, Jacob did more to help us than most friends or even family would do. Jacob, you are a Godsend!!
This is the first time I made a private room reservation. I didn't know what to expect. One thing is that, if you are looking for a hotel experience, private room is not for you. Renting this place is like having a vacation with the convenience of your own home.
Jacob was a great host! He gave us leads where to go to and was very accommodating to our needs! We got to the house early but they welcomed us with open-arms. The living room, dining room, and kitchen are common areas, so we were uneasy on the first day to stay there to ensure we won't bother other guests. The house was fully-equipped and basically have everything with what you may possibly need during your stay. We had the basement room, and the stairwell was a little tight and kind of steep, especially with seniors. Room upstairs was gorgeous though. The wifi was fast and TV has Netflix access to continue watching your favorite shows on your downtime. The house was very clean and well-maintained.
The place is about 10 minutes ride to the museums and there are nearby restaurants.
To my kababayans, mag-eenjoy kayo dito! Malinis ang bahay at tahimik ang lokasyon. Mababait sila. Very attentive sa mga pangangailangan ng guests.
Looking forward to reserving this place again!
We rented the bedroom in the basement at Jacob's house. We also reserved the parking space in the back. We had no trouble finding his house. There was a large school across the street but no noise or any issues. We found the bus very easy to navigate and a bus stop for the P6 is around the corner. We also used the metro and picked it up at Noma-Gallaudet (It's approx. 3/4 of a mile downhill...which means it is uphill on the way home!) Be sure to turn right upon leaving the station as you head home or you will add unnecessary distance to your walk home. We found the location to be safe. The room itself was fine. There are two queen beds which crowded the room a bit. One bed is a blow up mattress. Believe it or not, I found it comfortable. I was pleasantly surprised. There is a bathroom down the hall, but it feels private because you are the only room in the basement. So you basically have the entire basement to yourself. There is no TV. The wireless worked great and was plenty to be able to stream a movie at night. The basement did not smell musty or give off any "basement" smells which also worried me. We were able to use the kitchen for reheating leftovers. We also used the fridge to stock up so we didn't have to eat out every night we were there. The kitchen is stocked with everything you would need. Pots/pans/salt/plates/glasses/silverware. It truly was a working kitchen. Jacob's friend lives in the house and answered any questions we had. The shower pressure was great. We would definitely stay here again or recommend to visitors. There were no reviews when we booked this place...so we were nervous. I'm so glad we gave it a chance!
