The Perfect End to a Honeymoon Adventure

Review of Marino Ridge
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 17 Apr 2019
We cannot say enough good stuff about Marino Ridge. Anyone traveling to Waiheke Island should make this there preferred place to stay. Caroline & Peter were wonderful hosts. It began when Peter picked us up from the port and drove us to the house.

The breakfasts were amazing, Caroline even tried new items on us and for us as my wife is Italian so she made a few special items. They both went out of their way catering to our needs. And you will love the unique pepper grinders.

The evening canapés and wine each night of our stay were exquisite. Not a simple appetizer platter but individual servings of very high end and delicious food. It was great to meet other couple there as well and discuss our days around the island.
Caroline & Peter when out of their way to make us feel welcome. Recommending wineries and restaurants, making our reservations and even arranging for our rental car to explore the island.

The house was spectacular. The views of Coromandel from our private suite and the hillside down to the beach could not be beat. I recommend you walk down the path to the small beach then follow the path all the way around to the marina. Not a hard hike but the views were outstanding.

We felt we had the best of all worlds. A boutique stay while feeling like we were visiting old friends. If you go, and you should, make sure you say hello to the two best behaved dogs in the world. They were wonderful.

Room Tip: The Owhanake suite is downstairs and the most private with the best sea view.

This was our last hotel in NZ after 3 weeks travelling and was just prefect! Peter collected us from the ferry and showed us the most lovely room with views down to a little bay full of yachts. Everything was immaculately clean and very well thought out, including a night light in the bathroom on a sensor! The bed was wonderfully comfortable the the big patio doors opened onto a terrace with that gorgeous view! My only tiny criticism would be that I’d prefer a door to the bathroom, but perhaps i’m Just old fashioned! Peter and Caroline are the best of hosts, recommending and booking places for us to eat, taking us to restaurants and making sure we had the taxi numbers for the return trip. Best of all were the delicious canapés and superb breakfasts created by Caroline. My husband managed to leave his glasses in the room and our hosts very kindly sent them back to the UK. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough and send sincere thanks to Peter and Caroline for their wonderful care

We loved our quick stay at Merino Ridge when we visited gorgeous Waiheke Island last month.

Caroline and Peter are awesome hosts and they welcomed us into their beautiful home overlooking the bays. Rooms are lovely, spacious and well appointed. It’s very relaxed and so lovely to get to know other guests over their evening canapés. And breakfast is gorgeous - healthy, nutritious and showcasing as much local produce as possible.

The house is stunning. The grounds are gorgeous with views to die for. I could have sat on the terrace looking out to sea for hours! Location is great as you are close to the main hub of Waiheke but the location also feels secluded and unique at the same time.

Unfortunately we only had a short stay as we visited Waiheke right at the start of our NZ holiday. Waiheke will be on the list if I return to NZ for another holiday in the future and merino Ridge is simply a great choice.

Marino Ridge is an absolutely superb 3 bedroom resort located on a cliff above Waiheke Island, a short ferry ride from Auckland. We came here for 2 nights directly from our trans-Pacific flight from Canada to recoup from jet-lag .The home is gorgeous, ultra luxurious with views to die for and the owners who hosted us were absolutely delightful. The food they CREATED for us was delightful and so healthy at the same time. Caroline and Peter made us feel soooo welcome in their home we didn’t want to leave. It’s unfortunate we cannot give them more than 5 stars!!! The place is a slice of heaven.

We were lucky enough to stay at Marino Ridge for 4 nights in early January. It was absolutely beautiful and we had an amazing time. Peter and Caroline couldn't have been nicer, and their breakfasts were the best we had during our 3 week trip! We stayed in the Owhanake room which had a beautiful private deck and stunning views of the bay below. We spent a ton of time touring the island and laying by the pool and in the hot tub. We loved the daily canapes and had a great time chatting with the other guests. Highly highly recommend!

Room tip: Great views

My husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon in December 2018. This place was literally heaven on Earth! The views are stunning, the pictures can't even do it justice and it's pretty secluded so your stay is very private and peaceful. The other thing that makes this place amazing is the couple that owns/runs it, Peter & Caroline. Not only are they fantastic chefs, (every morning we had a gourmet breakfast and every evening tasty appetizers before heading out to dinner), but they gave us recommendations as to what to do each day around the island, helped to cart us around to local spots (we didn't rent a car) and they are an absolute pleasure to be around. I would highly recommend this place to anyone but especially to those who want a peaceful, private place to stay with excellent service!

Room tip: Request the Owhanake suite as it has excellent views of the bay!
