Recovery from New Zealand jet lag

Review of Marino Ridge
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 24 Feb 2019via mobile
Marino Ridge is an absolutely superb 3 bedroom resort located on a cliff above Waiheke Island, a short ferry ride from Auckland. We came here for 2 nights directly from our trans-Pacific flight from Canada to recoup from jet-lag .The home is gorgeous, ultra luxurious with views to die for and the owners who hosted us were absolutely delightful. The food they CREATED for us was delightful and so healthy at the same time. Caroline and Peter made us feel soooo welcome in their home we didn’t want to leave. It’s unfortunate we cannot give them more than 5 stars!!! The place is a slice of heaven.

We were lucky enough to stay at Marino Ridge for 4 nights in early January. It was absolutely beautiful and we had an amazing time. Peter and Caroline couldn't have been nicer, and their breakfasts were the best we had during our 3 week trip! We stayed in the Owhanake room which had a beautiful private deck and stunning views of the bay below. We spent a ton of time touring the island and laying by the pool and in the hot tub. We loved the daily canapes and had a great time chatting with the other guests. Highly highly recommend!

Room tip: Great views

My husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon in December 2018. This place was literally heaven on Earth! The views are stunning, the pictures can't even do it justice and it's pretty secluded so your stay is very private and peaceful. The other thing that makes this place amazing is the couple that owns/runs it, Peter & Caroline. Not only are they fantastic chefs, (every morning we had a gourmet breakfast and every evening tasty appetizers before heading out to dinner), but they gave us recommendations as to what to do each day around the island, helped to cart us around to local spots (we didn't rent a car) and they are an absolute pleasure to be around. I would highly recommend this place to anyone but especially to those who want a peaceful, private place to stay with excellent service!

Room tip: Request the Owhanake suite as it has excellent views of the bay!

Marino Ridge was our first stop on a two-week New Zealand visit. Staying there is like being invited into Caroline and Peter's home. They went above and beyond any of our expectations to meet every need including room amenities and dietary restrictions. Their recommendations for local cuisine and wineries were excellent as well.

Caroline's breakfasts were an incredible way to start each day and were our group's conversation conversation topic for several hours each day. After our Marino Ridge stay, anything else will be the "second best" breakfast we've ever had, regardless of where we visit.

The location if fabulous. There is seclusion if you need it and easy access to the island.

We can't say enough about Peter and Caroline and the experience they provided. They are truly passionate about Marino Ridge and it shows in every detail

We found this place quite by accident. After traveling in Australia and New Zealand for 3 1/2 weeks we needed a place to rest and recuperate. We discovered Marino Ridge and Caroline and Peter. The perfect place and the perfect hosts to wind down a perfect trip. They made us feel like old friends rather than guests especially when we were lounging in the living room with our feet up snuggled in a blanket. The views are astounding, the architecture is gorgeous, the property perfectly landscaped, breakfast delicious and location is within walking distance to Oneroa. This is THE place to stay on Waiheke.

Room tip: Loved the downstairs suite

At first I didn't want to write a review. Why would I tell the world about the most wonderful, relaxing, invigorating, and restful accommodation in New Zealand? Then everyone will know about this piece of heaven on earth.

But then I'm not one to keep secrets.

Peter, the owner, picked me and my husband up at the ferry and whisked us up the hill to paradise. Our room was large and pristine and so, so comfortable. It is unbelievably great to sleeping with the door open and feel the breeze. That's one fantastic feature about this property - it's so open and airy.

Once settled, Peter's wife, Caroline prepared island oysters and canapes. Peter poured a glass of the most delicious wine to help enjoy the view - as if you needed any help.

It was absolutely breathtaking. We inhaled. Took it in. Experienced the bliss. Then at night we admired the stars while enjoying the pool and hot tub.

Marino Ridge was the start of our New Zealand adventure and the one regret is that we didn't stay longer.
