We received this as a gift, and it is a step above where we would normally stay! The location is perfect - close to the town, and high up providing great views across the bay. The staff were all great to deal with - warm and engaging, good local knowledge, and efficient. The food was really good, and the on site chef happy to change to suit. We had a dinner and two breakfasts - all interesting, well presented, and tasty. The room was well appointed, with a little ground floor balcony to sit outside. We also has a massage - thoughtfully executed, and had a little jeep for a day to explore the island. The water pressure is pretty low, but given where you are, understandable. All up an expensive luxury, and really enjoyable.

Spent a wonderful 5 nights here - highly recommend. Perfectly positioned for exploring the island and a quick walk into town.

We stayed in the water tower which is spacious and on 2 levels with a comfortable balcony at the top, a well appointed kitchenette with a large fridge and microwave. Tea, coffee (nespresso), soft drinks, cookies and liquorice allsorts (!) included. Lovely shower with Ashley and Co products available. Huge comfortable bed and good TV (x2).

Breakfast included (absolutely fabulous and cooked fresh for you) with lovely coffee and good choice of poached and fresh fruits. Beautiful views over Little Oneroa. We had dinner one night and it was the best tasting lamb that we have ever eaten.

The thing however that made it exceptional was Jonathan, the owner and his team. All were lovely, friendly and a delight to talk to. So very helpful and welcoming. Finally, they have a dog called Harry who has the sweetest nature and is very well behaved. The complimentary transfer to and from the ferry with Chris P was very easy and he was very informative about the island and a pleasure to meet.

So all in all we would recommend staying at the Boatshed without reservation. Thank you again to Jonathan and the team. We certainly intend to return at some point in the future.

Stayed close by so tried the restaurant on out first night on the island. We were so impressed we ate there a second night. Quality food - way above average taste experience . They also provided a good menu choice, well trained staff and excellent service- all at a reasonable price. Thank you The Boatshed

We stayed in the lighthouse at the boat shed for 2 nights. It was amazing. All 3 stories of our ‘room’ were beautiful, but the view from the top was absolutely fantastic. The food was excellent- we had breakfast here 3 days and dinner once and I can’t say enough about it... everything was so fresh and delicious. The people that run the place were friendly and extremely helpful with suggestions. I would recommend this place to anyone. Waiheke is magical - and the Boatshed is absolutely worth every penny.

Sure, this is a nice B&B, but it is only a B&B. It is ridiculously priced and would be expensive even at half the price. I don’t get all these positive reviews. Was I staying in a different place? Or maybe too many people have lost reality of true value. Before you suggest I don’t know value for money, we had just come from a stay at Kauri Cliffs which is more expensive on a per night basis but was way better value and seemed cheap when compared to the Boatshed’s offering. That doesn’t even take into account the Boatshed’s questionable standards of a TV not working (was told it had been an ongoing problem), blown light bulbs in our room and a shower with low pressure and no hot water and a shower knob falling off in our hand. Then there was the main lounge where we met our friends before dinner which was cold and dark even when sitting in front of their huge fireplace which could only manage a smouldering pathetic fire at one end of the hearth. My friend kept his puffer jacket on being indicative of the room temp. We had already decided to eat in, having arrived late on the island – the meal was nice for the most part but very expensive considering there were no choices and a limited and very expensive wine list. Any one of these issues you could forgive them for but on the whole it added up to a hugely disappointing experience. The final insult came when the owner was contacted after our stay to at least be given the opportunity to discuss our concerns – the silence has been deafening, even after a number of follow ups. Having travelled for over 30 years to many corners of the globe and at various levels of accommodation, from cheap & cheerful to exotic palaces, this has to be the worst value place I’ve ever experienced – be warned.
