It was raining quite heavily when we arrived in Picton and we headed straight for the Beachcomber as we had read good reviews but had not booked without looking first, my wife has a thing about this. We were not disappointed. Our room was a luxury one with a balcony overlooking the harbour and even in the rain it looked good. The next morning was brilliant sunshine so we sat on the balcony, which made up for the previous day, prior to catching the ferry across to north island.
The lady who ran the motel advised that if we wanted a table in their restaurant that night we should book first. We thought she was trying to drum up custom by this and did not book, instead we gambled on finding a nice restaurant in the town when the rain had stopped. Big mistake, the rain did not stop and there was not much choice of restaurants which surprised us. There is an opening here for someone to open a decent Italian!

Picton Beachcomber Inn is recommended. Good spacious room with a little outdoor setting from where I had a good view of the pier, the boats and even the InterIslander as she came in.

Spacious room with all amenities. Good price; even a discount for a solo traveller, a rarity !

The only downside was that the room was quite stuffy with no through air. I tried opening the door to the garden but this attracted the flies. Flywire screens would be handy.

A perfect room - 301. A warm friendly welcome. Double balcony, comfy bed, huge spa bath and just fantastic views. A pool if you fancy a dip and sun loungers. Well worth the price. Fresh milk would have been a bonus.

Room tip: 301 - top floor on the corner, overlooking the harbour.

Due to a ferry cancellation we were suddenly stuck in Picton for another night so tried our luck at getting in at Beachcomber. I was reading reviews about poor wifi which initially put me off (as we looked to spend the night planning some more of our trip) however the wifi was fine! For £65 I was really impressed with the room, it's amazing what you get for an extra £10-20 in NZ. The bed was very comfortable, room was spacious and we had a well equipped and clean kitchen area to make dinner. Bathroom was also very clean with a good shower. TV had movie channels... after staying in many very basic rooms around NZ, it felt like luxury lol. Would definitely recommend!

We stayed 2 nights last weekend, we had room 301 it was the best. Fantastic view, nice and roomy, comfortable bed and a spa bath, very relaxing it was. Great location too. Staff were nice and friendly, we didn't eat at the restaurant but heard it was nice. Only downside was we could hear the people in the next room. Would definitely return.
