Lovely cruise with a very positive vibe from the crew and other passengers, who were a wide range of nationalities. Perfect day for sailing, and a lovely tramp up the hill of the sanctuary island. Lots of good information, together with sightings of dolphins, penguins, albatrosses and other seabirds, but no kiwis.
We got a bonus by bringing back a team of researchers who had released some young kiwis on the island and monitored others, and told us all of their work.
I still think it is possible that kiwis do not actually exist, and may be a collective joke New Zealanders are playing on tourists. Many people talk about their encounters with them, but I've still never actually seen one in the wild.

We booked our tour directly through E-Ko tours rather than through our cruise ship. it was a lot cheaper this way. however due to a large storm the ship wasn't able to dock at Picton. we were only given 24 hours notice of this and immediately contacted E-Ko tours. They kindly advised us there was no refund available as 48 hours notice wasn't given. However those booking through the cruise liner got a full refund. Very poor service considering it was beyond our control.

This was an absolutely fantastic tour especially when we came across the pod of dolphins I didn't know which way to look but nevertheless I managed to take some great photos and the commentary from both Tanya and Andy was very informative. We also managed to see the different varieties of birds and some seals as well. The walk to the top of Motuara Island was worth the effort especially with the bird life and the view once you reached the top and to top it off a nice cup of hot chocolate and cookies on the way so back.

I booked to go swimming with dolphins while in picton and I was lucky enough to achieve this with these tour operators, staff friendly and care hugely about their job and the habitat

Great tour run by knowledgable, friendly staff on a modern, clean boat. 68 NZ dollars for a 2 hour trip. First a 1 hour guided walk around the Kaipupu reserve, where we saw lots of native birds then a trip around the harbour to see more birds, fish and fur seals. Wonderful!
