This is a very well set up local museum, with sufficient information to tell us all about the very early days of settlement in Akaroa. The short video in the old Court House is very interesting as well. Entrance is via a donation and the museum thoroughly deserves all the support it can get...well worth a visit

This free museum ( entry by donation) is well laid out and clearly shows the interesting history of the Banks peninsula and is well worth a visit

Excellent local museum, recently refurbished after the earthquakes. Entry by donation (no pressure, just a box at the entrance). Information and history is conveyed through human-interest and story, photographs, interactive screens, and a modest number of artifacts. They have resisted the temptation to clutter the place, so the overall impression is one of the many and varied elements of the local history both (Maori and European). Don't miss the movie being played in the restored courthouse that is part of the complex.

The most delightful part being the enthusiasm and friendliness off the staff who were willing to answer questions and help, all volunteers with enthusiasm for the local area.

The short film about the area is interesting and the collections of artefacts fascinating too. An interesting hour and a bit while your in town

Looked so small from outside...but takes far more time to fully visit ! Very nicely presented, easy to read, diverse topics and items. Entertaining and enlightening ! Staff friendly and knowledgeable. Perfect location center of village. Surely part of your walking tour in Akaroa.
