I loved my stay at Banks House Akaroa, the staff has a warm welcome, very accommodating and unique, the view is superb and the service and cleanliness of the hotel are great. Perfect place for a romantic time, my partner and I loved it so much, we're closer than ever after this special trip.
I definitely recommend this place!!!

Our visit to scenic Banks Peninsula and stay at historic Banks house was one of the highlights of our trip to New Zealand. While the house rooms are small the excellent breakfast and quality of service provided by the house manager was outstanding. Etsu tailored an effective response to meet all our needs ranging from transport to washing, frig and cutlery, wet weather umbrella, torch, extra chair, tissues, tea service, advice on where to eat etc. She carried our luggage., arranged drinks and cheese night to meet other quests....you name it she provided.it with a smile.

The room was immaculate, everything spotless. So nice at breakfast to drink tea from antique china.. in the evenings.read in the lounge by an attractive, warming gas fire.

The owners are to be congratulated for excellent staff selection and customer service training. Thank you! We enjoyed our stay at Banks house very much.

The House itself is close to the shops in the French end of the town and just a few minutes walk from a very good fish and chip outlet, local
library and cinema. The Lake is at the bottom of the road.

Banks house has a lovely garden.

Akaroa is a laid back and interesting place to visit. Due to the bedroom size of the Banks house rooms a stop there may be better suited to a 1 or 2 night stay. We stayed for 3 nights. We did not have a car so could not leave luggage in it as another couple chose to do given the lack of space in their room.

This is a beautifully furnished b&b about a 5 min walk to the bay. We arrived at 815pm due to major road works. Checkin is til 8 pm so we had to ring the owners to let us in. Not very welcoming and made us feel like we really inconvenienced them. Rooms are good and beds comfortable. Only one free power outlet but plugs wouldnt stay in so had to use another room for charging phone etc. Wifi only in downstairs lounge. Breakfast was nice tho limited in choice. There is a nice garden and the house is tastefully decorated.

We stayed in the Garden Room, which is separate from the house. The house is immaculate and has very interesting decor. The grounds are a small garden. The breakfast was delicious. There is a deck on the second floor with a view of the harbor. The best part of our stay was our host Etsu, who was very attentive and even surprised my wife at breakfast with an apple piece carving of one of her favorite characters. She also came over to the Giants' House after we checked out to return an electrical plug converter. Akaroa is just adorable and the Banks House is a short walk to the waterfront. This was our favorite stay on our New Zealand trip!

Room Tip: Garden Room is very private- can't see the rest of the upstairs bedrooms.

This is a great place to stay in Akaroa. It’s peaceful with a lovely garden but only a couple of minutes walk into town. It’s very tastefully furnished and quite luxurious. The staff are very welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was good.
