I have been on many of these types of nature excursions. Usually I don't see the animal that's promised. Not this time!! Not only did we see these smallest of all dolphins, but they love playing tag with the boat. On the Black Cat cruise we took, there was other wild life too. The boat sails out of Akoroa, which is on a bay formed when a volcano collapsed into a caldera millions of years ago. The entire rim of the caldera is therefore volcanic rock. Birds and seals call this their home too and the captain and crew got us up close to the shore to see them . At the mouth of the bay where it joins the Pacific Ocean was where the dolphins were most numerous. They swim and leap out of the water as they follow along next to the boat as they apparently enjoy our company. This was a reasonably priced and worthwhile excursion. And by the way, as with most private excursions, this one was far less expensive than the one you could arrange thru the cruise ship.
