Great location!

Review of uHotel
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 1 Dec 2024via mobile
Eurostars uHotel is located right next to the Grand Hotel Union in the center of Ljubljana. This is a wonderful hotel in a great location. It is less than 5 minutes walk to the Preseren Square, Triple Bridge, farmers market and the riverside restaurants. They have a good selection of food at the breakfast buffet and even has a gluten-free section. Overall, would definitely choose to stay at Eurostars again.

From check in to check out and everything in between, the stay at this hotel was amazing. I’ll start with the staff since that is what you encounter first. The staff are kind, considerate and helpful. A true asset to the hotel! We arrived at a late time to the hotel after traveling for 24 hours. We got checked in quickly and efficiently and were in our room within 15 mins of arriving at the front desk. We also ended up catching a cold on the plane which necessitated a trip to the pharmacy the next day. The staff again came through in directing us to the only pharmacy open. Breakfast at the hotel was a really a pleasure. The spread is great with a good variety of choices. Again, friendly staff getting you whatever you need. The room was standard, but quite clean and comfortable. With the onset of the colds, we spent nearly half a day one day staying in and mostly in bed. The bed was supper comfortable even for the amount of time we spent in it. The bathroom had plenty of space and counter space on the vanity. The only negative was the shampoo, bath gel bottles. The pumps on them were somewhat less than functional. What really made this hotel a standout for me was the pool and sauna. I got nearly daily use out of them for my 4 night stay. The pool area is a nice space located on the top floor in the spa area. The spa area has lockers and showers. The pool was a perfect temp, warm enough to get right in but cool enough to feel refreshing. The spa has a Finnish sauna as well as an infrared sauna. The sauna was kept at the perfect temperature. WARNING FOR AMERICANS: Be sure to follow pool and spa rules. Shower before entering the pool. Shower before entering the sauna. No swimsuits in the sauna and there isn’t a separate male/female side. Lastly, location of this hotel couldn’t be better. It’s just a short 5 min walk to Prešeren Square which is the center of the old town. The only downside would be parking. It’s a bit of a bear if you have rented a car.

Room tip: If you can afford it, get a castle view room.

Terrible experience at Eurostars uHotel. I was moved to three different rooms due to serious issues: one smelled like sewage, another had a broken air conditioner during a heatwave, and the third still had a foul odor. Management was unavailable throughout my stay. Absolutely unacceptable for the price I paid. Do not recommend.

Nice pool, good breakfast, excellent location, good wifi. As for the rest, disappointing, especially given that it’s supposed to be a 4 star hotel. Our €200+ a night room had ineffective AC (external temp was 32 degrees), a squeaking bed frame, an old mattress, seasonally inappropriate bedding, and very low water pressure in the shower. We complained after the first night, and desk staff were polite and responsive. We were moved to a room where the AC actually worked, and the bed was comfortable. Water pressure still low, shower temp variable, and drainage poor. In summary - there are too many rooms in this hotel that simply aren’t worth the money.

Room tip: Avoid the larger rooms in the old wing

Let’s start with the positives: great location in town and excellent breakfast on offer.
Now for the negatives: the bathroom didn’t look like it had been cleaned at all - the toilet had what looked like skid marks (!) and the mirror was stained. the furniture in the room was outdated and the sheets felt damp.
The worst part for us however was the lack of service from the reception staff. When booking the room I had requested a travel cot for our baby. Upon arrival at the hotel it was still too early for check in however I asked for confirmation that a cot would be in the room, the lady at the reception said she would make a note. When we finally checked in a few hours later I reminded the gentleman at the reception that we needed a cot - he said it should be in the room already but if it wasn’t I should call them immediately. Alas once we got into the room (with a very tired baby) the cot was nowhere to be seen. I called the reception numerous times (no one was picking up the phone) and was told they would bring us a cot. Half an hour passed but nothing so we went to reception to ask again. It took them an hour to provide the cot but … it had no mattress! They had rolled up a woolly blanket (in August!) and covered it with a sheet. Not only is it ridiculously hot, it’s also unsafe for a baby to sleep on.
I would expect better from a 4 star hotel.

Room tip: Bring your own travel cot if you have to stay here with an infant!

(+) fantastic location in the center of the city, next to all the attractions, transport ,etc; on the other hand you can feel the age of the hotel but also they make great effort to maintain / clean it.
(+) the room I've had was big, nice view, even a balcony
(+) access to a pool (but you must book an hour)
(+) nice and efficient check-in/check-out

(+/-) the breakfast is OK, big range of choices, lots of space but is somehow not what expected from a 4 stars hotel (quality and especially the presentation of the food). It feels a bit cheap, especially when you consider that is shared with the neighboring Grand Hotel Union Eurostars, which has in theory an even higher standard

(-) the card system to the rooms is faulty, I had to change my card on each day of my stay
