Gdansk is full of restaurants with tasty food and high standard of cleanliness, polite staff who speak English. Cheap destination and value for money. Beautiful historical city. Amazing architecture.

First of all - full disclosure - I lived in Gdansk for a while so this review is biased.

I recently come back to Gdansk after a long time (6 years or so). The changes are absolutely stunning!

The place became a wonderful touristic destination and you can quickly confirm that by walking on Dluga (Long Street) and in other areas of the Old Town. So many tourists even in March and April!!! This is unprecedented for this city.
It is a great place to visit and if you plan to visit Eastern/Central Europe please do do do visit Gdansk and its Old Town
You won't be disappointed.

Okay, now.. for pros:
The whole Old Town is being renovated and it is visible with your naked eye - pretty much all the old buildings come back to life with walls being cleaned and repainted, lots of lovely restaurants with delicious food around Dluga, along the Motlawa and close to Szafarnia. The streets full of many languages and a really safe, lively crowd of people that - mind you - does not include only foreigners. Many places in Eastern Europe create ghetto-like areas for tourists where the prices are shockingly high and local people are not be seen... except behind the counter. In Gdansk it's different. You will find a Swede, Polish, Brit and German sampling the same beer in LaBeerYnt, eating burgers on Dluga, cursing the weather in one of coffee shops, etc. This is what makes it so unique.
I visited Gdansk in Mach and April 2016 and will definitely come back. It is a new (or reborn really) baby on the touristic map of Europe, but there is a LOT to be seen in the future. If you are bored with London, Paris, Amsterdam, come to Gdansk (and Sopot). You will still sample a bit of a communistic past, but spiced up by a hope of a young generation of people that is free of the complexes of the older generations. They speak English, they want it all and you do want to feel that energy...

A traffic free area with stunning buildings, river walks, restaurants, amber shops and tourist attractions. The old town is super clean and feels very safe. Some city tour guides may tout for business but will accept no for an answer

Nice to sit out and enjoy the busy life on the street. Many nice restaurants. Sit out in the sun and relax.
