We rented this apartment for a week in August. We were a party of six professionals: four attorneys, a veterinarian, and a college administrator. This apartment is in a good location. The managers also provide "free" transportation to and from the airport. However, it is on the fifth floor, two flights of stairs to each floor. Since the lift doesn't work --and the manager said that they could not get the required part to repair it--it means that you have to walk up approximately 120 steps to get to the apartment. The apartment looked nice and the kitchen was well-equipped. However, it was not well-maintained.
To address the major issues: In the lower bathroom and the bedroom nearest the door, when the ceiling light switch was turned on, half of the lights would come on; the other lights would either come on at some later time or not at all. The faucet would not stay on unless you pushed it all the way up and the water came out full force. The fire and burglar apartment alarm kept going off, even in the middle of the night, for the first two days. They responded and by the second day and turned off the alarm completely. This meant that we had no fire or burglar alarm for the rest of our stay.
In the other first floor bedroom, there was a bail window located at ankle level, which had a shade pulled down and four plastic plants were placed in front of the blind. The shade was not raised for several days and when we did raise it, we found that the wire reinforced window had a crack at one end. The remaining windows in the bedrooms were sky-light windows with spring-loaded dark-out shades which had obvious shred marks on the sides. Before the apartment manager initially left the apartment, we pointed out the fact that the plastic anchors that hold the shades down were broken, missing or non-functional, and that a number of the shades were shredded on the sides. She demonstrated and instructed us to pull the lower metal edge of the blind down and turn it around the edge of the metal track to keep the shade down rather than try to use the plastic anchors. While she was there, a shade was pulled down in her presence and engaged in the track to hold down as she had instructed. The shade promptly flew up violently as a result of the spring action and she simply said to pull it down again as she had demonstrated.
Being on the fifth floor without a fire alarm made me very nervous.
